I’m a little over half way through this one. Not as good as Young Men and Fire, but I didn’t expect it to be. It’s still a well written book and John obviously inherited talent for writing from his father, Norman.

Have this one on my bookshelf. I picked up Young Men and Fire after seeing you recommend it on here. Absolutely gutwrenching, painful read.

I’m listening to the audio audiobook ‘empire of the summer moon’ while painting a house.

Knowing very little about the subject, I’m finding it very interesting including all of the historical information.

Is this book considered fairly accurate?

Considered one of the best works on Plains Indians, yes. Got a whole bookshelf of other recommendations if you want to deep dive on the topic.

Not so much a read, it’s a podcast but not a really a podcast - Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History. I started the series SuperNova in the East about Japan and WWII.

Intricately researched, and like having a conversation with an amazing history professor. Each episode is like +\- 4 hours long, so not a weekly affair. Amazing.

Dang, I think about this book quite often and some of the stuff written in it. I read probably a dozen books in a row on Americas expansion and had to take a break. I still don't know anywhere close to the full history of our country and it isn't even that old.

There sure is some interesting history and a lot of it.

Living in New Zealand all other countries seem to have a lot of history, I believe ours was the last country to be settled both in terms of the original inhabitants (Māori) and the European settlements.

First of a trilogy Marv...McGarrity is a good writer.

I had read the Kevin Kerney (ex-chief of detectives Santa Fe, NM) series a few year back. Just recently realized that there were the three books that led into it. Finished Hard Country and am now working through Back Lands now. Interesting Father/Son dynamics

Some books I read in January:

With a Rifle in Mongolia by Hoyos-Sprinzenstein - Old book translated by Safari Press, Austrian hunter bags dozens of argali sheep and ibex on a 1911 hunting trip to Mongolia. A bit boring compared to other classic hunting books I've read

The Firm by Grisham - Awesome legal thriller

The End of Everything by Hanson - New book that tells the story of four historical civilizations that were completely destroyed, it was a page-turner

Also read biographies of James Madison and Woodrow Wilson this month, I'm attempting to read a biography of every president this year.
