WALA: Man attacked by a bobcat while turkey hunting

Had a decent sized bear come in to about 75 yards opening day here in CO before he ambled off to greener pastures.

Called a coyote to about 15 yards yesterday; I’d have shot him if a couple birds weren’t gobbling around me

Multiple coyotes, only one bobcat. Bobcat aren't in season during the local turkey season. Which is a shame because, in addition to being detrimental to turkey populations, they're decent table fare. Kinda rank when you undress them, tho.

A ranch I hunted in South Texas had mountain lions. We thought they were joking when they said we could shoot any we called in for free. I didn't figure out they were serious until afterward. I think I would have had something a little bigger than #9s in the second barrel had I known they were around.

About 10 years ago I was attacked by a bobcat and the following year a close family friend was also attacked by one in the same general area.
Bobcat and coyote encounters seemed to be a fairly common thing where I grew up turkey hunting in Pennsylvania.

OMG

That sounds terrible.

Have you recovered from your wounds?!

My brother had one come up on him a couple years ago turkey hunting. Cat jumped at him but didn't really attack. Scared the mess out of my brother though, couldn't even get his pistol out in time for self defense if the cat wanted to be more aggressive.

Not much for public land turkey in Region 3. I killed a mountain turkey one year, decided to share the location with a friend who wanted to go out with his son.
They didn't find any turkeys but while calling birds two mountain lions came in, one of which was pretty dang big.
The next year I got maybe too close to a sow with cubs.
I still go there now and again, but keep my chit wired tight.

I’ll tell ya a few spots for public land region 3 birds…… they’re like cockroaches!? 😉

I was on the Shindoll ranch one time and just made it to the top of a small ridge in the early morning darkness. As soon as I made a few chirps I had a coyote scamper in and nip at my leg as it ran past. I dropped my bow and spit my mouth call and had my .45 cocked and ready to buck in a millisecond if felt like. By the time I was drawn down on him he was maybe 6 yards from me and scampering in front me left to right down the same small draw I’d just come up. I was in disbelief and just stood there watching him as he disappeared down the hill. Within seconds he and 3 more come up the hill and come right toward me. I was still pretty new to the self taught hunting thing and it was my first year bowhunting so shooting the gun in the dark was my last resort. Had to let her buck. Boom! I shoot right over the top of one at maybe 15 yards or so and they all skip off like freaking hyenas out of a movie. Swear they were laughing at me while I tried to shake the turd outta my nice hunting pants…
