WALA: Man attacked by a bobcat while turkey hunting

Had a decent sized bear come in to about 75 yards opening day here in CO before he ambled off to greener pastures.

Called a coyote to about 15 yards yesterday; I’d have shot him if a couple birds weren’t gobbling around me

While I was spring turkey hunting, I had a skunk come down a fence row and hop across my legs and keep right on trucking. Thank god. lol

Multiple coyotes, only one bobcat. Bobcat aren't in season during the local turkey season. Which is a shame because, in addition to being detrimental to turkey populations, they're decent table fare. Kinda rank when you undress them, tho.

A ranch I hunted in South Texas had mountain lions. We thought they were joking when they said we could shoot any we called in for free. I didn't figure out they were serious until afterward. I think I would have had something a little bigger than #9s in the second barrel had I known they were around.

About 10 years ago I was attacked by a bobcat and the following year a close family friend was also attacked by one in the same general area.
Bobcat and coyote encounters seemed to be a fairly common thing where I grew up turkey hunting in Pennsylvania.

OMG

That sounds terrible.

Have you recovered from your wounds?!

Here's my "Outdoor Life this happened to me story". I was turkey hunting here in Iowa one season, set up on two track in the woods with my back to a big oak, butt on the ground, knees up gun resting on my right knee working what sounded like 2 or 3 toms in the valley below. The toms were hammering pretty good to the Preston Pittman black diamond mouth call I had. 20 or 30 minutes in I glanced to my right and saw a coyote slinking up the two track towards me and it kept looking in the direction the toms were gobbling from while moving towards me. I guessed the toms were within 100 yards and I didn't want the coyote to screw them up so I needed a plan to just scare it away. I needed something to wave at the coyote to scare him away. So I grabbed the bill of my ball cap with my left hand and started waving that at the coyote trying to "shoo" him away. Well the coyote picked up my movement right away and dropped down low to the ground staring at me intently. He was probably 30 yards away, now I'm head to toe camo and a right handed shot, my 1187 was up on my right knee pointing towards the toms gobbling. I'm aware the tom's are still gobbling and working my way and I really need this coyote to just turn around and beat it out of there. So I wave my hat at him again........ and he starts slinking towards me slowly....... so I wave my hat some more..... and he picks up the pace.... now running right at me. It was at this moment I knew I screwed up, the hunter was now the hunted. And how in the hell I didn't blow my foot off trying to swing the gun hard right while unloading 5 three inch copper mags at the coyote in full charge is beyond me. I never could get stood up, it all happened so fast. The next thing I knew I had an empty gun and a very dead coyote a couple feet from my boots.

I’ve called in coyotes with an elk cow call. My son says my cow calls sound more like a sick calf, so there you go.
