The Rinella Effect

I’m sure that Rinella was dropping bulls and loved it before he got famous as well. That’s why I just don’t get the hypocrisy. I’m not against either guy, I support both. It’s just funny that people hate on Rinella on a Newberg site.
Purely opinion, so say what you will. But from a Montana perspective, Newberg was one of the collective " us" before there was an "us", and before social media became a thing. Rinella, good guy and all, (though I think slightly conceited), rolled on to the scene later.
Most would say they are two peas in a pod. Don't agree.
Rinella has great content, but some of his tactics are unforgivable.
In the end, decline in the whole arena reflects many variables.

I find it weirder people post on HT and have no knowledge of how/why its around.

If those dead bulls and videos get information like jed hinkles wet dream of a bill to the light - its well worth it.

Like i said Pablo Escobar.

Lets look at FT. Probably high up on the list of somewhat succeasful channels/influencers - right?

Youtube pays 10-30 bucks per 1k views. Quick glance says their MIGHT be 100M views. Thats 1-3 M dollars. For many years. For many applications. For many miles. For an office. For many years. For a lot of the gear, food, ice. Dont forget ads!

Dont forget if you have employees - you pay their benefits/taxes. Typical cost is at least 2x wages.

I get meateaters made it big. Thats unique.

As someone who has a YouTube Channel and knows all the analytics. The Meat Eater channel at most makes 500k a year. You don't make much. His cpm is maybe $3-$10. Your math is WAAAY off

You guys are very ignorant in how much sponsors are paying these guys. Case in point, there was an elk hunting group that all quit there professional full time jobs to make videos of them killing elk.

No shit? Ive been looking for a reason to rage quit my professional job. Ever think they might be well off and want to take a plunge doing something they love/want to do and can simply afford to?

Did you see what they get paid? Or... are you assuming?

I guess the fact that these guys “aren’t really making THAT much” pisses me off worse. The tougher draw odds, spot burning, crowded trailheads, etc. Only for an ego boost? Why else?
Never in my life have I got back to the trailhead after a day hunting and been thankful for all the other people I’ve seen.
Never once have I wish there was more people afield. As someone mentioned above, it’s simple math…. the wildlife that we all hunt and chase is not infinite. It can’t sustain the explosive increase in hunters that we’ve seen in the last 10 years. There is only so much “opportunity” out there. It will be spread over more people now meaning less opportunity per person.
I am all for the conservation, education, newsworthy issues that can be learned about. But it just feels to me like most of the time the overriding theme is trying to attract more people to hunting.

I appreciate what everyone is saying. I'm not married to an opinion one way or another because I can see each sides point. The real question is if the populaty of it will wane at some point or will the states that are disproportionately effected make a change? Some of it may be irreversible though.

I do think social media could use a bit of a cleansing through a movement to stop tagging every little spot with a view. Or videos could just straight up not say where they are and take more care to blur any signs or identifiable peaks. I always joke that when I lived in a state I would go to a particular national forest because there were no Instagram worthy shots or any comfy amenities.

Correct. Social media stardom is as addicting to someone with narcissistic psychological tendencies as heroin is to an addict.

Remember that these social media companies spent tens of millions of dollars designing their product to be as addictive as possible. Try to have a conversation with a group of 20 year olds now to see how well it worked.

Well, I know of 3 grown men with families that quit there full time jobs, one being a timber cutter, to make YouTube videos killing elk 😂 I have heard numbers and I also see all of the pimping of gear by people that are very apparently getting paid to pimp gear.
