The housing shortage and public lands

Getting back to the original topic, it isn't just ritzy ski towns with housing problems.

Headed back shortly for my 50th HS reunion. Glad the camper trailer is on my brother's place. I'm getting the f out of western Montana as soon as the gig is done. What a mess!

I get it and I'm glad you're doing well. But the concentration of wealth among a few is exactly what we rebelled against. I don't want to trade monarchs for oligarchs.

And while you guys are making that bank, there's 100's of folks waiting on a call from an electrician or plumber to help them deal with their issues, but because the rich dude with the mansion is willing to pay that double wage, those locals get screwed on the services they need.
I knew that was comming!:)

I can tell you didn't read the link.
...OR understand Texas DBS.

Ya know! Texas didn't come into the US as a state. We came in as a country all our own.
Texas DID NOT give all it's unused, unclaimed properties to the Gov't to manage. Texas took care of it's own property.
No wonder y'all are jealous of Texas! LOL!
For the record, TX was required to become an independent country annexing itself from Mexico prior to becoming a US State. This is because the sitting President at the time didn’t want to be labeled as the aggressor invading Army. Furthermore, is was very much assisted by U.S. black money, Army Soldiers, Marines and mercenary’s in order to do so!

I truly love Texans; but it’s only a matter of time before one of you folks brings up that Texas was once an independent country and that the rest of the U.S. should be aware of that status.

Just landed in Philadelphia. Spent the last 45 minutes of the flight flying over a patchwork of lights from horizon to horizon.
I miss Montana.
There is 5.7MM people in the metro area of Philidelphia or about the same population as the great State of CO (that is if you relocated the entire poplulation of CO to Denver metro). They don't like living on top of each other anymore than you do and are comming to a town near you soon!

And their independent power grid is a shining example of being independent to be independent.

In any instance where you have the movement of people into a concentrated area, you will see an increase in crime. That's simply a function of humanity crowding together. New York City leading up to the Civil War was a hot mess of gang activity based on right wing intolerance of immigrants & black folk (draft riots, etc) followed by the immigration of organized crime from the old world in the 1880's & 90's with the Black Hand which turned into Cosa Nostra. Chicago during prohibition was a direct result of outlawing liquor, a cause that was championed by religious conservatives who over-reacted to a serious public health issue. Denver had serious gang issues before it exploded in the 2000's. Austin has been a drug town since UT was founded. In fact, the first mass shooting happened at UT.

The whiskey rebellion was an attempt to avoid taxation of liquor. George Washington shut that down. THe opium trade in the west was tied to railroads & mining, as was the massive explosion of prostitution and murder.

It's not necessarily political. It's the American psyche to thrive on conflict

Thank you. :)

One of the "music" thoughts I had earlier this morning when browsing this thread was

Luckenback, Texas--Waylon ( and a little willie ) Several posters on the friday music thread might agree with Waylon

"guitars tuned good and firm feeling women"
That's a good tune

Pretty simple. You ruined where you came from with your politics and escaped to a better way of life. Becoming a NEW resident first thing you do is “fix” your new state 😂 most dangerous words any new resident says is “well in California we did it this way!!” Insert any state with fleeing refugees not picking on California although 80 percent of my new neighbors seem to be from there. SFC is correct. If you like your new state and did not like your old state leave th
Perhaps we should keep in mind that everyone who lives in the West is relatively NEW from certain perspectives. I think that I'm the 15th generation to live on this contentment from England (1607 or 414 years; most European settlement came after that). However Spanish settlement was here just over a hundred years prior to my families’ arrival and the Native Americans was perhaps 15,000 years ago. We are all relatively new commers to this land.

Often increased populations are what changes the political course and direction of an area vs just political affiliation. It is inevitable. For example, just look at the Western settlement. Settlers started to displace the First Peoples and the mountain men. Settlers were the greenhorns and were considered problemated citizens. Railroads and the Cattle industry brought more people displaced many of those first settlers, put up fences and displaced the wildlife. Crime increased with the population boom especialliy in the towns and to be honest the lack of female governance in early Western Settler’s lives. If fact, perceived widespread lawlessness in any City in America today would still be characterized as the “Wild West”. Once families were established in the West, new rules were put into place changing how things were done in Western towns. Now Western towns are being repopulated and things are changing again to accommodate the increased number of people.
