Sunday deer hunt , no deer spotted , no elk spotted, but I did have a good rifle hike. The main reason I went into the area today was there’s a big knob that you can walk to on old logging roads to that overlooks a small little Valley and elk are in there all the time, during archery season when I was with the guys I got the idea if you come up the backside through the woods on elk trails in the dark to start your hunt from the highest point in the valley, then hunt the logging roads out . So I did a trial run and used ONX to mark the back of the knob where there’s an old mud logging road at the top, that I will work to in the dark to stage for daylight, Roosevelt rifle season starts on November 13. That was more important to me than shooting a deer today.
On the way out walking the logging road, I found a wallow that the elk were using during the rut right on the side of the road
Peaceful drive out in the moonlight
