Late reply but does the turkey seem sick at all? Can't really tell but second pick in coop looks like it's laying down? I'd be suspicious that something might be wrong with it if caught by hand then laying down in the coop?

Otherwise it seems like you'd be fine to try to shoot it once released, but worth checking with warden.

Damn! When I was a kid, I was all proud of myself when I caught a goldfinch with my bare hand. A wild turkey? Now that's quit a coup.

I guess you could shoot the turkey when you release it, but that doesn't seem very sporting.

I’d assume your kid is just very competitive. His friends where probably talking about choking chickens and he decided to one up them. With a literal Turkey.
