With all the shed competition these days, I look for any advantage I can get. Deer only though, I don't drink enough liquid courage to try that with elk.

Late reply but does the turkey seem sick at all? Can't really tell but second pick in coop looks like it's laying down? I'd be suspicious that something might be wrong with it if caught by hand then laying down in the coop?

Otherwise it seems like you'd be fine to try to shoot it once released, but worth checking with warden.

Damn! When I was a kid, I was all proud of myself when I caught a goldfinch with my bare hand. A wild turkey? Now that's quit a coup.

I guess you could shoot the turkey when you release it, but that doesn't seem very sporting.

Maybe, maybe not. I grew up in a rural area with not much to be entertained by except playing in the woods. We were little bastards always messing with chit....can't claim to be clean.
I said it was strange, which is not the same as righteous condemnation.

Guy I know went to a state park with really tame deer that would beg for food at. your car window. Little 2x with one shed antler stuck his head in for a cracker and my friend grabbed his remaining horn and held on.

That deer was more than he could handle, he let go of the horn when all that was still inside the partially open window was his ankles/shoes. He claimed the window was open a foot and he is 14" thick... and that's what it felt like as he was pulled through.

I caught a magpie bare handed yesterday, before thinking about how quickly they can strip a hindquarter down to the femur if the hide is off. My hide was intact, but it isn't now.
