SB 442 - Habitat and Access

I thought Llew Jones was a solutions guy. This should be right up his alley.
The chairman prefers to send as much of this funding to the general fund, rather than pay for what the voters had asked for, or what the legislature passed in 2021.

Getting word the Govs office & Representative Mercer are leaning harder against this.

Call the Govs office 406-444-3111 and let them know you support SB 442!
Sounds like the governor will veto this. What does it take to override his veto?

Is there a whip count you're aware of, Ben?

No concrete tally but there is support. I think we pass second reading on a close vote. Keep hammering until they cast their votes, then we head to appropriations where the real battle is.

We're up in house appropriations in a few minutes.

24 hour rule apparently doesn't apply today.

Just an FYI, these are the members of the House Appropriations committee who voted against sb442 on the floor today. Llew Jones, Bob Keenan, Terry Falk, Bill Mercer, Naarah Hastings, Lyn Hellegard, Terry Moore, Fiona Nave, Joe Read, Jerry Schillinger.
You know, incase you want to reach out to them directly... And they NEED to hear from us!

Likely going to get a vote on this tomorrow @Ben Lamb ?

Vote is tomorrow am.

Hit all members of approps and tell them to respect the work that Montanans have put into SB 442, and pass a clean bill.

Hey @Ben Lamb .....don't want to get too far down the road, but thinking GG vetoing SB442 is a real possibility. Where do we sit with HB669? A veto on 442 could come quick, paving the way for passage of HB669 which defunds Habitat MT. All of that seems politically risky for a first term governor.

If 442 passes in good shape, it would be politically disadvantageous to veto given the over 100 groups & businesses now supporting it, including the chamber of commerce, Montana Assocation of Counties, VFW, National Guard assn, etc. We expect third reading Tuesday or Wednesday in order to pass in time for transmittal. It could get pocket-vetoed by the speaker, but he's been supportive of it.

669 will need action tomorrow either in finance and claims or a blast motion in order to be able to pass in time for transmittal on Wednesday. F&C has a full morning with charter schools & executive action on a bunch of bills.

Tempers are short & we're close to the end. Keep hitting the house floor with messages of support, and take the time to write or call the governor's office supporting sb442 as well. This week is do or die.
