Quitters

I’ve quit a lot of times and it’s funny what ones really eat at me. Just trying to fill a cow tag in a snow storm one year where we were climbing a crazy steep slope and kept sliding back down. We finally decided someone was going to get hurt and turned around. Still pisses me off. I know we had zero visibility up there but the fact that I gave up pisses me off.

I tend to be anxious and it really bothers me. I struggle to know what’s going to be difficult or down right dangerous/stupid. Running from bad weather is probably at the top of the list. Im more likely to run from a winter storm than a grizzly infested hunting area. I’m hoping as I get more experience, I’ll get better at judging the situation. I think some of my nervousness comes from being on the water so much of my life. If the weather could get bad, it’s time to go NOW. I’ve gotten caught in some crap that was really bad and I think that has stuck with me.

I quit once, after 6 girls… actually now that I think of it she got her tubes tied so I’m not the quitter. Nope never quit. I did shoot the first legal buck I saw on a x5a tag though, that was sorta like quitting.

My Lab came up lame during early goose hunting in Ontario. Preliminary diagnosis was torn crucial ligament with surgery needed. She saw a specialist in Great Falls yesterday. Seems she is almost healed up. Surgery is off the table for now. He says let her have one more week off then give the pheasants hell and see how she does. Twelve year-old Fr Britt got her first rooster on the way here. She's a cancer survivor and I hunted her too hard that day. She was in tough shape for two days. A bit scary actually. She seems ready to go but I'm only letting her work for a few hours at a time now. No more all day marathons.

Not quitting if I can help it. But I must look after my girls.

I’ve passed about 7 dinky bucks here in the tree stand, one just this morning. Had a 2.5 minute full draw stand off with a big 8 point last night who stood vitals hidden broadside behind a tree. Lost that battle when I had to undraw

I’m quitting. No buck is safe now

Don't shoot one on the last day you wouldn't shoot on the first. Just when you least expect it.

I say this but we'll see how well my discipline is this weekend. Lol

Never been one to quit or give up on a tag and will pretty much always hunt til the end of season if needed, but I definitely struggle with keeping a positive attitude out there when the places I hunt are getting pounded and little things mostly beyond my control keep happening to make it feel almost impossible to get a chance at a good animal. But I’m too stubborn to quit. Lol
