Friggin siiiiiiiiiiiickk!!!!I continued to eat my meal thinking there is no way. And then as I was finishing my meal I heard a branch snap and some hard breathing. He was getting close. About three minutes later he was in sight and working side hill away from us but nothing to stop him from descending the 1000 yards if the shot wasn’t instant.
The bull rounded the trees and came right back at us. I laid my gun across a down tree and lined him up. There was no one on the hillside behind him and I had my sight picture. Frontal shot with a slight 1/4 to so I should be able to miss all the meat.
You think you can save some for the rest of us? Sheesh, some people are trying to still get their first elk knocked down here.View attachment 345565
I have never been so wet in my life! The amount of moisture I got thrown at me on that mountain in Nm was like nothing I had ever seen. Rain, sleet, snow, hail, freezing fog, rinse and repeat. This hunt tested my truck, my willpower, my body, and my mind. Got to hunt with a childhood friend of the family at the last minute and that made a pretty miserable hunt a lot more bearable. I am drying out, getting some rest, and I head to Georgia on Wednesday night at midnight for the international tree climbing championships. I will likely not get to the write up till the flight as I need to unpack, pack for Georgia, and spend time with the family.
Lessons learned:
*Being wet constantly really SUCKS
*You can alway walk slower
*Friends can make a miserable hunt enjoyable
*More meat heading to the fridge is always good

You're not alone!IDK.

Martin using Gobel's drink for an ashtray is comedic genius, as was Gobel pretending he didn't see it.
