Phishing attempts…..show us what they have tried

I was part of the Ticket Master data breech in July. I started getting emails and snail mail requests from no less than 11 credit card companies asking for additional information to process my application. They all required my SS# before considering my app.

The first thing I did was contact one of the credit reporting agencies and put a fraud alert on my account. They contact the other credit agencies and put a freeze on my report for one year.

I've still spent countless hours getting past electronic representatives and speaking with humans canceling credit applications. It's only been two months but so far, my FICO score is where it should be.

Two years ago we had a layover in Miami coming home from the Caribbean. We had dinner, boarded our flight and in the five hours it took to get home, someone had tried to charge $1,750 at four different vendors on my Discover card. I got the email from Discover when we landed.

There are some real shitty people out there folks.

Text message. Nice try scammer (or data entry error), as I have no children to whom this would pertain.

A high level professor from Cruces reached out to my agency with a very fake looking request for data and presentation stuff. It was vague and unprompted so it was obviously fake, but...

All of our PhD's clicked on it

After publishing a one year frost damage study in MDPI I get a ton of these. This one had my names backwards, like they would show in a citation. They regularly refer to me as Dr...

Occasionally I get solicitations to publish in the the such and such journal of gynecology and obstetrics on account of my expertise in the field of viticulture.

No matter how many times you try this, I will not fall for it! Mumbai this time, even more menacing than New Delhi.

From our very own HuntTalk page (I cut off the misspelled links at the bottom of the page)

I think it is real, I have almost a pallet of tools waiting for me at Harbor Freight…

Apparently there is an inordinate amount of attractive Asian women looking to hook up with a fat, balding 60 year old man

My mom fell for a fake UPS / USPS link; asked to pay $0.03. She paid it and then they waited for a month and spent $600+ on Black Friday before fraud alerts kicked on. She wouldn’t tell us because she was embarrassed - and then it got expensive and she had to ask for help

I guess you go for Asians. I get Ukrainians.

I mentioned before that my 63 YO cousin lost everything he had on one of these scams He is now broke and divorced.

Got this one twice in the last few months. Looks like a google street view of the neighbors house to a house we lived in and sold 3 years ago. Told the wife to hurry up and transfer the money. She got a kick out of it.

Speaking of Google Street View, if you look up 3716 Constance St in New Orleans, you can see a guy doing crack right out in the open. Wild times.

I’ve gotten this one several times. They had a 5+ year old picture of my neighbors back yard. I guess they’re been watching her chickens for a long time.
