It appears Hornady has launched their new products for 2025. Now, I will preface by saying I like Hornady in general and have had great results with several of their loads. However, they have for 2025 launched a "backcountry defense" handgun load that is designed to penetrate and not expand....almost exactly like a lead solid....or an FMJ🤔. But the funny part of the ad is where they say "the problem with lead solids is the huge cloud of lead dust that prevents you from being able see for a follow up shot, this new bullet has a jacket to prevent that." C'mon guy 😂 Anyway, I like the company but sometimes the marketing is quite amusing

A buddy sent me this page for .338 ARC round.

I thought it was a joke at first. I think the bullet is longer than the case!

338 arc would be a great choice if you had a supressor and didnt hunt in a western state or open country. Its 300 blackout improved. Useless to me but not everyone.

Theres been SOME smoke firing a hard cast lead bullet. And if you shoot glocks or something with polygonal riflling it has benefits. Just what advantage that has over a flat point fmj im not understanding.

they left a bunch out of their release vid, like the new 138gr .257 A-Tip. G7 of .350 seems pretty spicy to me.

Need to get the 25-06 fast twist barrel I have spun onto something.

Sort of lacks the longer range performance of 338 arc though, right?

I get no ones making 500 yard shots with either - but i bet 200/300 is more plausible with this.
The SOCOM has all kinds of funky geometry that renders it a PITA. Seems like the .450 Bushmaster was a much better solution to that problem.

That dust claim was something else.. never noticed a hint of such shooting hardcasts. If they are cheaper, function similarly, and play nicer in glock barrels than hard casts though that’s cool.

I do think they released some cool stuff. 105 and 140 hybrid clones at a cheaper price and hopefully higher availability. The new Atips look like nice options for some applications. I bet that brass trimmer becomes the new standard in volume trimmers if it doesn’t have any fatal flaws. More 6 GT ammo and 109 ELDm availability is a good thing.

33 ARC doesnt fire me up but if the AR guys think it’s cool, power to em.

Gotta innovate to sell product I guess.
In a fully mature, saturated market like centerfire cartridges, 100%.

Like them or no, it's pretty obvious that Hornady's combination of releasing (and hyping) new products and actually being able to deliver their products to retailers has won them a big 'ol chunk of the reloading market over the past few years. Most shops I've been in recently have like 80% hornady in the bullets and brass section.

My general feeling is that they're mostly overhyped but hardly junk, so I end up shooting plenty of their stuff. Half of me wants to criticise them for making their stuff sound way better than it is, but the other half of me is an economist... 😅
