Hornady 7 PRC a Lie?

Too bad in the 50s they didnt design the throat for bullets that didnt exist.

If you dont want to handload ammo, a custom twist barrel, a custom chamber, and a custom mag box theres obvious benefits. Plus going faster with less powder doesnt mean anything either.
I'm not running out to buy anything PRC. Reckon I can get my killing done with what I have. mtmuley

Just like years ago with WSM now the fad is PRC
FACTORY ammo speeds are always embellished by 100 to 200 fps sometimes even more

My 300 wsm shoots 165 gr speer spbt at 3250, no jacking the speed there. 180 gr at 3000. I've never owned a seven mil, but have shot the O'Connor for a few yrs.

Just to clarify, I was saying you can get 2800 out of a 280AI, at least according to Nosler reloading data.
My experience supports this. I’m getting 2950fps with a 180gr VLD from my 280AI. It has a 27” barrel, so I would say 2800-2875fps should be very doable from a 24” barrel.

It’s doable. 175 partition at 2850 from my 24” 280 AI. Long bearing surface on those partitions.

The velocities posted by hornady are based on the SAAMI specs. I know for the 7PRC the barrel length is 24 inches.

Ron Spomer did an interview with Seth from Hornady explaining what is going on with the lower velocity some are experiencing. Mostly is the availability of the preferred powders are not available, mostly going to the war effort in Ukraine. Hornady is having to use other powders that just arent getting the velocity. Very good interview you can find on rons podcast on youtube.

I’ve seen this “they lied to me about velocity” argument before. I have a 7mm SAUM.

My Christensen Ridgeline in 7 prc hornady ph 175 averaged 2870 with 26 inch barrel. I must have the newest powder in my lot number.

PRC=Profit Reaping Cartridge.

I'm glad I didn't jump onto that bandwagon.

Lots of previously owned 7PRC rifles for sale. Many of them "custom".

Lots of owners b####ing about the velocity.
Handloaders trying to get the velocity are running into over pressure issues.

I'll keep my 7mm Rem Mag and 7mm Weatherby Magnum.

If I want to go faster, I'd go
28 Nosler.
7mm STW.
7mm RUM.
7.21 Lazzeroni Firebird.

Ya I have a 7 mag as well. It's another gun in my arsenal but this one has a better scope. Been fun shooting and trying to increase my effective range.

I see no reason to trade my 7mm RM for one...

Recent videos from Backfire, Reloading Weatherby, and Who-Tee-Who have all chronographed factory 7PRC ammo only going about 2800 FPS out of a 24 inch barrel, even though the Hornady Boxes are saying it is throwing 175 grain bullets at about 3000 FPS. When they try to load it up to 3000 FPS, they are getting too much pressure. Backfire is speculating that the reason Hornady is lying about their numbers is because they are trying to bury the 6.8 Western.

A 280AI gives better speeds than that and more rounds in the magazine, and the 6.8 western out of the box is awful close as well with a short action. So it kinda seems like the 7 prc is actually the worst of both worlds.

I've been thinking about getting something better suited for a suppressor than my 300 win with the 26 inch barrel and brake, and the 7 PRC has been on the short list. But this new info about Hornady lying to consumers has me fired up. It will be many years before I can afford to get into reloading, but even then, the 7 PRC is starting to sound an awful lot like a sham, and others here seem to be having feeding issues with it on top.

Are others experiencing the same?
I recently purchased a Browning X-Bolt Mountain Pro with a 20" barrel and have only ran Federal's eldx ammo through the chronograph and average 2840 FPS

im a magnum slut but my 300 wsm is a proven killer so why chase a 300 prc, all the prc are just a gimmick in my opinion. my 2c
