NAPF Pre-Launch announcement

Right now we haven’t figured out how or if we’re going to keep standard annual membership IDs attached to an individual. This will be done for life members for sure and likely sponsor members. But the annual memberships can have a lot of lapses in membership where someone might “renew” months after their original membership expires. This can create some challenges in trying to keep them in the system with a unique id. It’s something we’ve discussed a bit but uncertain at this point. My apologies.

Not gonna lie, I was very much looking forward to being able to show that number off.

I guess I don’t see the issue you are worried about. Even if they don’t renew you still have a running number of how many memberships you have had.

If they do renew months later they just get a new number. It’s not on you to store their place in line if they step out.

Plus it can bolster your presence on an issue if you word it correctly showing a large base.

“The last member we signed up was #34976.” Or “ We have had 34976 members sign up”.

No need to tell anyone on that member 17 didn’t renew.

It could be as simple as that, but part of this is not wanting to make a promise that falls apart or one that we can’t keep. We’re not entirely sure how Shopify will handle those situations from a database standpoint or how the subscription app will treat those entries either.

But like you alluded to, the information is captured. So we can assess after the fact and assign numbers if we can.

We will certainly keep folks updated as we learn more.

What promise? You didn’t promise me anything as part of a yearly membership.
Sorry for the confusion, the membership number.

We’ve had a few people ask us about it. And just didn’t want to say it would happen until we knew for sure how it would work on the back end going into the future.

To be more specific, we have to use a separate app for the recurring/auto-renew memberships. So membership purchases are sort of being sent through two separate funnels. So getting an id that’s attached to a person might be fairly straightforward forward once they’re in the system. But after that, if they don’t auto renew, or their membership lapses before they renew, we don’t know how each “funnel” is going to treat that. It might give that person a new member number if their previous membership expired. So we’re trying to figure out that stuff on the backend of Shopify and the 3rd party app.

Thanks @brocksw for taking the time to make this work for this Canuck, greatly appreciated! If you and the rest of the team care as much about some random dude on HT, as you do pronghorns, they're in good hands!!!

I also can't believe you said you'd even put lipstick on and leave a kiss on my membership card, just for me, talk about dedication!!! 💋
