Look at the stock market.
Maybe it is between labor and capital.

I think thats an over simplification. But if its that simple - i see why lots of folks voted for a guy promising tax free OT and taxless tips.

I would bet that none of those people make so much that the standard deduction doesn't sufficiently cover their tax obligation. Promising voters stuff that doesn't really matter is a great tactic.

They're going to be so happy when their paychecks go up and so mad when their tax refund goes down lol

None of the people working OT or for tips make above 12k? P.s. sure glad its 2x what it used to be (the standard deductions).

The richest working people i know (except on top corporate chain or middle management) are people making an hourly rate and OT. Welders. Linemen. Plumbers. Electricians. Boilermakers.

As far as tips - i imagine itd shock you what a lot of servers make too, though a lot of it never ends up getting claimed.

Useful skills/labor is compensated pretty well in todays day and age. The affordability crisis is inflation driven. If it were just "greed" as i presume you think, where was that greed during 2018/19?

If anything - way too many useless things around that are a total drain on soceity, like lobbyists, making money on grifting the taxpayer and special interest groups manipulating our government and trustees.

I think you’re right about that it will just change how the ot is taxed. With that though I have worked over 500 hours of ot a year for well over the last decade every year. I’ve had paychecks with over 100 hours of ot. That’s on top of my regular 80. A change in the tax model will be good for moral for guys when they have to do that. I guess until you’ve spent that much time with a head lamp on in knee deep snow you won’t understand see a paycheck At 40%

At least the federal deficit isn’t an existential threat anymore, at least for the next 4 years. Would be awfully hard to pay for all these across-the-board tax cuts without running up the deficit.
Maybe. Depends on how much gets cut out from other places.

First time in 128 years that Montana has been pure red in all those positions we voted on last night. I did not think Busse had a chance. I do hope when Knudsen runs for Governor in 4 years, Tester runs against him. We are not making Ds anymore who would appeal to Montanans. Tester had a great run. Personally, I did want 126 to pass, as I thought it was our only hope for moderating politics in this age of the internet.

The whole "Native Montanan" virtue, "Rich Out-of-Stater" vice, is no longer a Montana zeitgeist and I largely expect it to be abandoned moving forward. Montana is increasingly dominated by all those newcomers for better or worse.

Politically, Montanans are increasingly governed by those with a lack of knowledge of rural life, for better or worse.
Very true. I ask all the time, what will people think when they’re no more everyday blue collar Monatans left in certain sections of Montana?

We were at a fishing access recently and the gentleman asked us where we were from. We said “here” and he was confused for a moment and then stunned!

Numbers I have seen say about 1/3 of those in service jobs don’t make enough, so it may help more than my response implied. But I would image that there could be other impacts like base hourly wages may get cut or customers may start tipping less.

OT is a different beast. DOL will probably rescind the Biden requirement level on OT pay. As others have pointed out, the problem is it widens the hole in the budget. Let’s see where the cuts come from. The republicans in the House haven’t been able to pass a budget in years due to infighting. I expect that to get worse before it gets better.

Tax cuts dont always cause a loss of revenue for the irs.

Can you show me where the tax receipts declined?

I grabbed a sandwich the other day and the tipping for the restaurant offered 18-22-25. That has also gone off off the rails 20% use to be for great service at a great restaurant not walking out with a sandwich. I can’t remember the number but what is taken on ot from blue collar workers is pennies compared to all the other taxing. But I do think it will just be a rework of how it’s taken from your check.

To latch onto Cgasner's tipping comment, I purchased two sandwiches, drinks, and chips from Subway.
$44!

Twilight zone struck. They just pushed my personal "demand" away from what they supply. Thankfully, I look at it as further progress towards less carbs in my diet. 😅

It seems that the core Democratic position of abortion access must not be a priority issue for the majority of voters, yet when given the option to support it, there is resounding support.

I think abortion is an issue that almost everybody mostly agrees on and the media and partisans try to create divisiveness.

There can be debate on what the specifics of allowable circumstances are, but I don’t think there are many conservatives that support total bans that restrict them even in medical necessity, rape etc, just like I don’t think there are many liberals that support late term abortion.

Hard to imagine how it can be a top 20 issue for anybody, especially in races where the position seeked by the candidate has little impact on abortion.

The Montana ballot initiative, was probably well intended but it’s worded terribly from what I recall. Idk how something gets on a ballot without a team of lawyers playing devils advocate to make sure its words are right

On tipping:
Suggested tip % at a Missoula coffee shop the other day was 25 ,35, & 50%
When I go to these types of shops I use the no tip option. Why reward a tip for being able to walk to get a simple item and hand it to me. What makes the service they are paid to do so exceptional that it requires extra pay? Tipping has gotten out of hand, especially with the card readers. The values you're offered are nothing short of greedy and an attempt to intimidate you into paying.

Im all for tipping I gave my haircut lady about a 130% tip the other day it was the cash I had on me and that poor girl is busting her ass trying to make sure her daughter has better. Giving the kid at Jimmy John’s a 22% tip just doesn’t sit well with me for some reason
