Maybe it is between labor and capital.

I think thats an over simplification. But if its that simple - i see why lots of folks voted for a guy promising tax free OT and taxless tips.
I would bet that none of those people make so much that the standard deduction doesn't sufficiently cover their tax obligation. Promising voters stuff that doesn't really matter is a great tactic.

They're going to be so happy when their paychecks go up and so mad when their tax refund goes down lol

None of the people working OT or for tips make above 12k? P.s. sure glad its 2x what it used to be (the standard deductions).

The richest working people i know (except on top corporate chain or middle management) are people making an hourly rate and OT. Welders. Linemen. Plumbers. Electricians. Boilermakers.

As far as tips - i imagine itd shock you what a lot of servers make too, though a lot of it never ends up getting claimed.

Useful skills/labor is compensated pretty well in todays day and age. The affordability crisis is inflation driven. If it were just "greed" as i presume you think, where was that greed during 2018/19?

If anything - way too many useless things around that are a total drain on soceity, like lobbyists, making money on grifting the taxpayer and special interest groups manipulating our government and trustees.

I think you’re right about that it will just change how the ot is taxed. With that though I have worked over 500 hours of ot a year for well over the last decade every year. I’ve had paychecks with over 100 hours of ot. That’s on top of my regular 80. A change in the tax model will be good for moral for guys when they have to do that. I guess until you’ve spent that much time with a head lamp on in knee deep snow you won’t understand see a paycheck At 40%

At least the federal deficit isn’t an existential threat anymore, at least for the next 4 years. Would be awfully hard to pay for all these across-the-board tax cuts without running up the deficit.

Maybe. Depends on how much gets cut out from other places.
