Maybe I am.... I've always planned on getting out of So Cal to retire, and maybe the time is now...even though I won't be retired just yet. The company is moving all its title insurance production work to its St. Louis facility. So the Los Angeles ops that I manage will be shut down. There may be something else I could do for them locally, but the stress and headaches will still be there no matter what happens and it would still be in LA and the crazy place that California has become.

So if we sell our house and I sell Mom's house (she passed away almost 2 years ago and left it to me as trustee of her trust - I have to split the sale proceeds between my 2 brothers and me), I could buy a pretty nice place for cash in the town we are looking at, and there is a strong possibility for a job there as a title manager/Chief Title Officer......

I had thought I'd move to New Mexico in a few more years, but maybe now is the time and maybe it is Washington.

That sounds great Rick.
Obviously, fly up there and check it out. If I didn’t have so many things holding me in Fresno, I’d be looking at a new life in a state with some special requirements, like NOT California
.
I can see the draw for Washington, not the best elk hunting state, but clean air, great fishing, great climate.
Don’t think your escaping the liberals, Washington’s got plenty of them.

How’s the real-estate market in L.A. ?
Surprisingly, the Fresno market is going up. Very few (decent) houses on the market, and lots of buyers (investors). Foreclosures are going on the market and selling in days for 10-20% more than the asking price, mostly cash offers.

Cali.. May be in the same boat with a relocation to the washington area. We should know within 2 weeks. Let's keep in touch and compare notes.

Here in Orange county, the market is looking up too. Not a lot of price increases, but sales are outstripping volume in many areas. Like anywhere - price it right and it sells. The good part is that if I'm selling cheaper than I might like, I'm also buying cheaper, hopefully.

I'd have to get used to snow.... ;)

Ridgerunner - what part of Washington?

If work allowed, I'd be making that move in a LA second! IMO, there's lots more to like in Washington than SoCal. But, if your thinking of retiring to NM, why not pursue employment there and just work for a few years while getting everything settled before retirement? 'Course that's assuming that retirement is only a few years out. Just thinking that cutting down on the number of moves might not be a bad thing given your sons school aged...

If I move to Washington, Tyler, I would not move later to New Mexico - unless something radical changed. No, I would just plan on retiring in Washington. My older brother and his wife live in Wenatchee and one of my twin daughters - who is getting married next year - lives in Vancouver. If I can buy a place for cash, or close to it, and make enough to live comfortably and save some towards retirement, I will be happy and there would be no point in moving. Having hunted a lot in New Mexico and with the variety of game available, it always just seemed like an attractive alternative.

I have a call later today with the owner of the company, so I hope all goes well.

Good luck Rick.

I for one like that area of Washington. Insane waterfowling, good water access for hunting and fishing. Some fair hunting nearby as well.

Hope it works out for you.

My brother who attended USC for a few short years just about lost sanity.

Gotcha! Just couldn't see the point of moving twice. That said, NM looks more appealing to me than WA... ;)
