Mobile tagging/reporting

Just reading and looking at harvest numbers of states tonight and this may be discussed elsewhere on HT. Why don't all states or at least western states go to a mobile report/tagging system? To me I feel it would give them the most accurate number of harvest possible. AZ does it because of the quotas on units. Idaho has mandatory reporting, but that doesn't really mean anything. If you had to tag your animal with a mobile tag that spit you out a number that you attach to the animal or it's not legally tagged it would give the most accurate harvest reports. Sometimes a hunter will harvest an animal in a place with no service so they could say you have 24 or 48 hours to get on your phone or computer to report it and get your mobile tag number.

Other than cost there really is no excuse not to have mobile tagging. Here you don't even have to write the check number down, it automatically appears on your "punched tag" in your app when you go thru the process...no phone call just a couple clicks on the app on your phone. We get paper tags too to use in the field as you have 24hrs to e check in.

I've always had to take deer to a check station and eventually a call in system to get my authorization number. Without the ID, processors will not take your deer. Biggest surprise I had hunting western states was that you didn't have to check in your big game animal.

I remember waiting in line to check register deer at the weigh station in Pittsfield during gun season. Hours in line, but it was still fun.

In iowa we can register via phone, app, or over the internet for deer and turkeys. Yet a lot of critters go unregistered every year.

Oregon has both but if you don't report either way you get fined the next year. I don't like mobile for myself but I report as soon as hunt is over.

We switched to a mobile app based system last year. The switch over had some hiccups but the tagging/registering process is pretty seamless. I think it depends a lot on what your current system is for whether or not it opens the door to more untagged deer. The way our old system was, this method is actually a little better at preventing people trying not to register their harvest.

Mobile tagging is about the dumbest thing I've seen yet.

Fill in info in the app, fill in info on a separate piece of paper, and tag the animal
or
sign your name on the tag and tag the animal

I used the e-tag in NM and KS this year. Each state is a little different, but you don’t need service to notch your etag. I don’t love the etag, but if it helps provide more high quality data then I an all for it.

Were back to check stations around here for gun season. Southern il Check stations were unlike anything you could imagine back in the day. I swear the line was a mile. It was like a giant tailgate party waiting for hours.

Been doing it in MT since it was available. No cell service needed to validate your tag. It creates a time stamped validation that shows on your app and uploads when service is available. Way easier than keeping track of tags that have to go on the largest portion of the meat and kept track of which bag it’s in or needing to have something to affix the tag to the animal.

I love it.

MN still has physical tags for everything. By the time I have all my licenses for the year, I have too many licenses to carry around...

Mobile tags are supposed to be coming in 2025 for MN and I'm pretty happy about it.
