Just reading and looking at harvest numbers of states tonight and this may be discussed elsewhere on HT. Why don't all states or at least western states go to a mobile report/tagging system? To me I feel it would give them the most accurate number of harvest possible. AZ does it because of the quotas on units. Idaho has mandatory reporting, but that doesn't really mean anything. If you had to tag your animal with a mobile tag that spit you out a number that you attach to the animal or it's not legally tagged it would give the most accurate harvest reports. Sometimes a hunter will harvest an animal in a place with no service so they could say you have 24 or 48 hours to get on your phone or computer to report it and get your mobile tag number.

Other than cost there really is no excuse not to have mobile tagging. Here you don't even have to write the check number down, it automatically appears on your "punched tag" in your app when you go thru the process...no phone call just a couple clicks on the app on your phone. We get paper tags too to use in the field as you have 24hrs to e check in.

I've always had to take deer to a check station and eventually a call in system to get my authorization number. Without the ID, processors will not take your deer. Biggest surprise I had hunting western states was that you didn't have to check in your big game animal.

I remember waiting in line to check register deer at the weigh station in Pittsfield during gun season. Hours in line, but it was still fun.

In iowa we can register via phone, app, or over the internet for deer and turkeys. Yet a lot of critters go unregistered every year.
