Please don't.

If you spend much time around Fed WPAs in the prairie pothole region. You would know, more often than not they are the worst habitat in the county.
 
I am a fed. I don’t want the feds anywhere near managing all hunting nationwide. The absolute ridiculousness and cluelessness that comes down from DC every time we try to get a hunt package approved is assinine. A scary (and growing) number of the administrative types have only experienced wildlife via Disney movies. Seriously.
 
Also nowhere near nimble enough to adjust to winter kill, drought, disease die-offs, other population-impacting events. The states struggle enough to do this, and they are operating at a much smaller scale.

Are you, or are you not, willing to pop @cgasner1 in the Jonie Loves Chachis if I put up the entrance fee, call out fee, and nut sluggin’ surcharge? Ya know, for wildlife and all.

I’m 100% against hitting a lady. I’m sure she will understand it’s for wildlife
 
Just saying cwd and disease always starts in private. Let them high fence that shit, call it what it is. Canned hunts. So the disease doesn't spread to the public wildlife. In the end the public suffers. Fwp made old 324 a general deer unit because of cwd.

Or kill everything that steps foot off the hot zone private
 
Why were at it. Be interesting to know exactly where the elk that tested for bruciloucis was in the ruby's. Turner needs to high fence those Buffalo. No wildlife should graze were they do.

Elk carry the disease and if i recall correctly the only documented bruci transmission is from elk to cows. . .

I wish there buffalo all over.

1. Because while life isn't fair, and never will be, it, fairness, is an admirable goal. So granting someone born in Connecticut the same right to Rocky Mountain elk as someone born in Montana seems more just.
2. It is the same level of shared access that is already granted to other cherished yet finite resources, like public land. Which most people seem to think is a good idea, and is even referred to as a "birthright"
3. Lastly, because the people who promote the current state based systems benefit the most from it. Which simply for me doesn't feel right.

Sunday was a damn near perfect chukar hunting day. I was overflowing with joy smiling for hours on end. The struggles and sweat, rolling talus, austere colors, gentle breeze, punctuated by moments of intense surprise and an explosion of clucking feathers. And I found myself wishing that all of you could experience it at least once. Even if it meant I couldn't go as often. Not joking... As long as the resource didn't suffer. Which, IMO is where much of the animosity towards "other users" comes from. Maybe I'd see it differently if I lived elsewhere, but even if I did, I can't see where a different position would come from anywhere not rooted in selfishness.

I have felt and posted similar feelings when reading of Hunt Talkers coming to enjoy my home state. It makes me happy when they enjoy what I get to enjoy and hold dear. Not everyone is wired the same, and that is understandable too.

Speaking of a greasy feeling, a hunter believing an entitlement to another state's wildlife resource is justified, is greasy enough to being borderline slimy.

Since you mentioned fairness as a goal, maybe auctioning off every non resident tag would make certain the tags went to those wanting one the most. Think of the money raised, for wildlife... of course.

I do think that resident tags should be more expensive, perhaps at least the cost of a tank of gasoline. I also think that some sort of limited entry or choosing your weapon are worthy of debate.

The era of OTC going most anywhere you want to go for deer and elk, has contributed to where we are presently.
 
There already is a Federal oversight of wildlife. I believe that is as far as "federalizing" as it should remain. Our Republic consists of State sovereignty to the extent our founding framers defined. Within our borders it's our business - for the most part. Just as USFWS regulates for federal interests, our State sovereignty grants us our ability to regulate our wildlife.

So, as far as a complete federalization of all wildlife - I'm opposed. As it is, I'm content, sometimes frustrated, i.e. political dogma of wolves to grizzlies, though I would rather have the check and balance and bitch about some aspects while comfortable with USFWS efforts, as is current.

Why does it have to be another state's resource? Why isn't it our resource? Aren't bald eagles ours, salmon, ducks?

On your second point, is money the missing element preventing us from having better wildlife management?
