Brain fart on my side — 30-40 Krag. Without seeing “Krag” mentioned in your post, I was picturing some obscure cartridge, perhaps with a paper-patched bullet, that might have been based on a necked down 32-40.It would be cool, but a .30-40 is very different.
Nice shrapnel! Where do you get your brass for the .40-72? Or do you form it from other brass?
Out of all the guns I own or have owned, I b ought that on a total impulse and it is probably the most fun to shoot of any of them. Should have bought the deluxe model.
I remember paging through the Winchester catalog every year after seeing their full page magazine ads. Wanted one for many years but way out of the budget as a teen. Thought they’d be a blast to shoot rabbits with, as that’s what I did the most of back then. Then I was loaned a .410 and really don’t care for them anymore. Haven’t thought about this little Winchester in a long time. Now I want one for my son.Out of all the guns I own or have owned, I b ought that on a total impulse and it is probably the most fun to shoot of any of them. Should have bought the deluxe model.
I can’t believe they want to drug little boys when they act up in school, when giving them a gun would work better than the drugs…
I have a buddy that bought one just like yours. The silver medallion too, same caliber. He has a silver Leupold VX3 3.5-10x50 scope for it. Very nice rifle. Have you shot it? I just bought a stainless BLR (New) in .270 Win that is shooting 3/4" groups with Hornady Outfitter ammo ad just a tad bigger groups with Hornady Precision Hunter ammo. Very pleased with my purchase. It's NOT a silver medallion. I have the same one in 7mm Rem Mag also, stainless too, that's a similar shooter. And another one.
Browning BLR 308 Win.
Drilled and tapped for the scout scope, modified rail, threaded barrel.

For the life of me, I can never understand why Savage got rid of this line. Why arn't they bringing it out in a whole host of calibers?? Very nice rifle! and in great shape. You are a lucky man.
Unfortunately, the kids these days come from very tumultuos homes. Case in point, the kid near Atlanta that just killed 2 teachers and 2 fellow students. The mother was a big time drug addict, and the father, well,..... watch the videos. Sad story. Those are the realities.I can’t believe they want to drug little boys when they act up in school, when giving them a gun would work better than the drugs…
