LCH 2019 Hunting Year Summary

I've posted a few pics here and there in the "Let's See 'Em" threads, but the last couple of years I've gone to a year-end summary rather than recapping each hunt individually.


In February I went down to Texas to meet up with a friend made off of another forum and did some hog-dogging. Lots of fun and an effective way to stock the freezer. We got 7 hogs in 2 days.

In April I shot my first turkey here in Indiana. I've never been much of a turkey hunter, but this jake was delicious. If turkeys were the size of elk I'd probably hunt them exclusively.

In May I hunted black bear in SE Alaska. Slept in the back of a rented Suburban, had a fun time, saw several bears, got some wolves on trail cam.

In September I picked up a leftover Co ML tag for deer. I bounced around the unit for a few days without seeing a whole lot, but wound up finding a buck I liked.

In October, I took my family out to the Badlands and the Black Hills. No hunting was done, but it was my kids' first time west and it was an enjoyable time together.

In early November I took a whitetail here close to home in Indiana.

I took my kids out on opening weekend of firearms here and we shot a button buck.

Went with my BIL to Montana and he got his first muley buck. I got one too.

I hunted Coues in Arizona in early December. Fun time, but tag soup down there.

The only real regret I have about this year with regard to hunting is that I had a Kansas muzzleloader tag that I did not do justice. In hindsight, I spread myself a little thin with too many tags and not enough time to hunt them. Next time I'll set aside at least a week for Kansas.


I hope everyone else had a great year! This one for me will be hard to beat.

Hard to beat is right! Lots of adventure wrapped up in one year that's for sure. I'm looking forward to doing similar trip with the family soon.

No, I've thought about texting him. I still have a lot of meat from the last trip, but I wouldn't mind getting down there again..
