Full disclosure. In my younger years I sported a mullet of sorts. I've even been a Greg Allman wanna-be with hair almost down to my ass. Now the sun can tan almost all of my neck. I bought into the AR thing back when people were worried about them being taken away, Obama/Hillary era maybe? Shot a little to get acquainted with them and keep them for future use. I truly don't "expect" home invaders and wouldn't use an AR for that anyway. The .40 tucked next to me will suffice. I just hate it when someone else gets to decide what I can or can't have in my possession because "they know what is best for the public".

You must own a safe keep your guns in it and call your local police force to get a code to unlock your own safe everytime you want to get one out and put a GPS tracker on your gun, is that where you draw the line? Or will you soap box for that law to if it was ever proposed? More people keep dying as more laws are put on the books. Yet you keep supporting them either cause that's what you believe in or your to weak to stand for something? And you don't even fully stand for the laws you balance beam on the fence and semi lobby for both sides.

I want to know when one of these laws will represent negotiation and not “here’s a tube of Vaseline” to gun owners, have fun.

I think it’s a horrible idea to deal in absolutes but it’s to the point that I don’t think gun owners should cave, it’s always what we need to give up.

There are some items we could definitely negotiate with - Why in the world should we need to wait a year to receive a suppressor when I can walk out of the store in 30 min with the actual gun and ammunition. Even in socialist Europe there are countries you can pick them up in the local hardware store.

How would you respond if I asked you that question about fish and game laws.

"You support OTC elk hunting but then want limited on goats, populations of almost every species are declining but you still support hunting, you seem to have different opinions based on the state/species and region are you just too weak to stand for something"

We have state, federal, and local laws based on state and federal constitutions that are interpreted by courts and change. Geography and events making things highly variable. I don't support any law that violates your constitutional rights, laws that do should be challenged. State are going to have different laws and needs from one another.

You brought up storage, I'd support a federal law that says guns must be sold with a trigger lock, I support a state law for safe storage that says you have to secure them, misdemeanor for basic infractions but felony if a kid got a hold of a gun and someone died. Owning guns does not provide probable cause, police do not get to check, the only way you would be busted was if another crime was committed... so police are called for a domestic dispute and there is a toddler walking around with a loaded pistol on the coffee table.

I just hate it when someone else gets to decide what I can or can't have in my possession because "they know what is best for the public".

Do you think fentanyl and other opioids should be legal for all? How about explosives? Or does your rule about "someone else deciding" just apply to guns? We live in a society with all kinds of rules. The government tests people for minimum capabilities in operating an automobile and knowing the rules before giving them a drivers license. I just think the same should be done for a weapon. But I agree that any type of "ban" at this point is meaningless and done mostly for political points.

I totally understand where you are coming from. "Death by a million paper cuts" or something like that right? You mention a pretty extreme example about a GPS tracker on the gun and needing to call police for using said gun but as @TN2shot07 pointed out, something as simple as owning a suppresser is way more difficult than it needs to be just because its something viewed as "extreme". So its a balancing act for sure of what we are willing to tolerate as far as legislation regarding the right to bear arms because I don't think there will pretty much never be legislation brought forth to expand that right, only reduce it.

As has been pointed out, this is a state by state issue. Different states, even cities - permits to purchase, required training, proof of a reason to apply for a cc permit, magazine restrictions, ammunition restrictions, caliber restrictions, ability to purchase ammunition online and have it shipped to your door, sites like gunbroker are under constant attack even though every purchase is required to go through an FFL.

Like I said in my post above, there are actually some common sense items that could be put in place but there should also be some give on the other side. See Wllm’s storage example above, that seems pretty reasonable.
