Illegal Thermal Use

We could all be told to get rid of our center fire rifles and scopes and only use muzzleloaders and this place would bitch about someone using a pair of shooting sticks or that they aren’t using a long bow with stone points
We know who has 6 live scopes on his fishing boat!n
I live in eastern Montana. Where the hell would I put a boat in at? Baker lake?
dynamite in the river then?

Not sure I’m the one calling for a ban on anything
No, but hunters as a whole get to decide limits on their methods and what we choose to ban.

Just because they don't want to allow something you think they should, doesn't give you any high ground.

Out of curiosity how do you guys feel about bugle tubes? I’ve been using one for about 20 years to close in on bulls in the dark.

Truth is, very few if any here are sustenance hunters. When all is said and done, game meat is more expensive than grocery store ribeye. That means MOST are hunting for the experience or the trophy. I remember a time when trophies were earned in all sports. The use of thermal devices in hunting are the equivalent of the “everyone gets a trophy” mentality.
On this trajectory those of you with primitive weapons seasons will be able to use anything you want besides a drone or thermal soon.
20 years ago they didnt want us to have access to NV technology. Hell, they didnt want us to have accurate GPS! Its a divide and conquer scheme. Pander to the outcasts that MUST be successful and ethics be damned. Let us destroy ourselves from the inside out.

It didn’t really say that I saw in that article but did they also use a thermal scope to shoot those animals? I’m curious as to how many states “allow” a scanner but using the scope is crossing the line

Have you ever used a thermal for hunting?

@devon deer used one legally in England while I hunted with him. It turned my Swaro optics into useless glass. I stood and watched Richard thermal the surrounding areas. I’d used my glass to try to pick the deer out of the thickets after he found them with the thermal.

In the West, using a thermal to glass a ridge a few minutes will tell you if animals are in the basin. Game changer. There’s no reason to sit on a glassing point for a morning if ten minutes of thermal show no animals.

Thermals will increase kill percentages.
Absolutely right, I've personally nevered used a thermal available to the normal market. But spent a lot of time using other areas , it would be a game changer if the technology is similar.

You’re the exact customer that needs to buy the $300 wood bugle tube that doubles as the cave man club you need! I’m good with your ability to use this technique. Club away slugger

I bet if I held it up and looked thru it though it could gather light and that would be unfair when I go Jose canseco on a yard bull

There’s a reason the military uses them. A good one is very efficient at turning things up in the right conditions. I never saw them while out hunting until this fall. Guys were out scouting for others with them. One guy stopped while I was glassing an area and said “there’s 6 deer on that ridge.” I was glassing that ridge for 30 minutes with high end glass and couldn’t pick them up on my own. When I confronted the guy he said, “I’m not hunting just looking.”

It would be a bad thing for wildlife if those became acceptable to use in Montana. The quality and price will keep coming down as is the case for most technology.

A friend of mine in the military is spending a week in Texas doing thermal training on hogs. He says 3-5k dollar thermals are ridiculously good for picking up animals in cover at extended distances.

I’m putting my money on Chico the yard bull. However this is something we need to ppv. The Paul brothers might put you guys on an undercard with any luck.
