Had one back in the 80's too but couldn't afford the hand climber so hugged the tree and pulled up. Slide down hard a couple times also. Would stand up and hunt for hours back then hoping to see a deer.

Yep I had one. Couldn’t even begin to guess how many trees I climbed up with that thing. They were particularly sketchy on smaller diameter trees.
