Seems we are close to being officially done with another hunting season. Some seasons still open, but not much remains.

What can we do to make this place more exciting in the off season? Open to any and all ideas.

Thinking we need to do something over the winter, other than argue until bear season opens. Gotta be something worth our time.

Will be no BAYED this year. Don't have enough schwag. Would be about a two day drawing and we would be out. Will start caching some more goods for a future BAYED, even if Mrs. Fin gets tired of piles of junk laying around.

What you guys have for ideas?

My vote is for an equipment swap, we all have extra stuff, let's trade it around. I tried to start a bullet swap but didn't have any bites, open it up to any and all equipment. Thoughts?????

Not a bad idea, could even work brass into that as long as the brass' condition isn't misrepresented. I have at least 500 rounds of once fired .243 that's doing me no good. Also of tremendous help to some would be partial boxes of bullets for those who are working up test loads for a new or newly built rifle and don't want to or can't afford to buy full boxes for those purposes. There is a site where partial boxes can be purchased; www.bulletsamples.com/.

Invite John Burns over to share his views on Wyoming's wolf management.

How about we shoot some wolves and post a few pictures. The season is open in Idaho through March 31st in most areas. Generally speaking I am pretty closed lipped about my hunting areas. However, if I find some wolves I WILL be giving GPS coordinates to anyone that is interested. SAVE THE ELK!! SHOOT A WOLF!!

Looking at mtmiller post with all the beautiful wildlife photos gave me an idea...how about some sort of wildlife photo contest (or no contest). Gives you a reason to get out in the winter, take and share photos of the animals that we enjoy pursuing in the Fall.

I like the photo contest idea. How about a "find the ___in this photo" game. IE take a pic with a visible but hard to find object in it and have people try to figure out and post where it is. A good way to keep it lively is by giving whatever it is to whomever finds it and posts about it first. Could be anything you would want someone else to have. You would have to be willing to pony up on shipping or stipulate in your post that shipping would be the winners responsibility (on bigger items, you should be able to cover a few bucks for the smaller stuff).

An example would be a nice picture of a mountain scene with one of the extra knives you have lying around hidden in plain view somewhere in the picture. The first person to find it wins it. You can make it as hard or easy as you like but the harder it is the fewer people will play. Or Fin could post a nice scenic picture with some OYOA goodies hidden in it and a guy like me could post I see the MR Crewcab hanging on the tree in the upper left corner of the pic above the corner in the fence. Just another example but you get the idea.

I always enjoy the guess the score pictures. Seems to help me with judging better. Of course it needs to have decent picts and angles.

I like the swap idea. Always been happy with shed threads, the occasional big cat, arguing, and reading insight and updates on politics impacting hunting and the DIY crew.

Ideas :
The hunt ...for big fish - thru the ice.
Hog hunts.....I dig on swine - 'pork tastes good, bacon tastes good'.)
Snow geese.
Song dawgin'

Hunting gear classified section on website with categories including a wanted section. Contest for shooting the most coyotes.

No bayed this year:( it was interesting to see how hard it was to get rid of free gear.
I am still going to give out a free pair of binoculars here at the end of the year. All hunt talk members have to do is do a "like" on the predator optics or Theron optics facebook page. Since those pages are pretty new odds are pretty good!

I was thinking some kind of workout challenge to make things interesting but keeping records is too much of a pain. There are lots of free programs out there to do an online record keeping but I admit that even though they are free I did not keep records well when I tried it this summer.

How about a DIY taxidermy challenge? anyone who isn't doing it for money can try their hand at it?

A snowman making contest would be better, well at least I have more experience at snowman building than taxidermy.:)

Great idea about the snow man....but we have zero snow here in MN this year :)

Map Quest

Fin makes use of all those maps he has laying around and post up a picture of a certain area for everyone to guess where it's at. You do a very close up shot at first and if no one guesses where it's at then take a wider shot of area until it's guessed?
