With hunting season largely in the rear view for the year at this point, it’s back to the pool. The first few swims are always a bit of a grind getting back into it, but always feel nice after.

I am getting significant pressure to sign up for a masters meet from my daughter. Pretty sure she just wants the opportunity to laugh at me… One of these days I’m going to have to bite the bullet and give it a rip.

Day 75 of daily workouts, avg 90 mins/day. I’ve lost 19 lbs since August. Did not bring a pack hunting today. Tossed the 70 lb game bag on my shoulder and hiked the mile out like it was nothing.

Plan for ‘25 is maintenance mode. MT spring bear dates are on the calendar, 7-day pack-in. Much more fun when my body is up for the task.

I've recently cut sugar out of my diet. I've been reducing it for the past year but I've finally got rid of the rest of the lingering stuff over the past two months. Still do homemade bread, homemade pasta, etc., but not too much. Ultra processed food is down to zero. Again, never did much of that stuff but now everything is homemade. No juice or soda. Just water and milk. Adding kombucha to the mix. I just need the starter to show up and I can make my own.

It took a bit to kill the cravings but the end result has been positive. Never been fat, about 170 pounds at 6 feet tall. The weird thing is that my weight stayed the same but waist went from a 32 to a 30. Will lift weights this winter so I don't lose muscle mass. I'm creeping to that age when it can go fast. The big 58 in a month.

Broken lower leg in July led to a lot of Civilization V and healing. PT in September started slow just working on the ankle mobility. After a few sessions, I could tell the mobility was going to come back on its own, but my back, core, hips, and legs were massively unbalanced. And since the ortho PT was only going to focus on the affected area, I needed another option to feel normal again. So I went to this 'athlete' style gym for the last few months. The kind of place where they have you pushing sleds and doing all kinds of weird human tricks, but holy smokes is it effective. My core, balance, and flexibility is better than it probably ever has been.

I don't know what to write down or 2025 yet. Lot of life changes going on and milestones to grow through. Glad to be entering on a good foot though.

The holiday gorging has been mitigated by a little bug I picked up from the kids.
Not sure how much I put on, (maybe 3 lbs) but I’m down below pre holiday weight.
Excited to get back to the gym and lifting again.

No issues hitting my 200 pushups a day (average/month) through Feb. Just need to finish out 200 in the next two days.

As much as I tell myself I will reduce my heavier lifting before I injure something on my 55 yo body, I still get a little carried away. I had a quick leg workout yesterday, so decided to knock out some of my chest workout that is up for today. I was happy about how well 2x12x225 flat bench felt, so also registered 2x12x60s flat flies. Maybe I will try to put up 315 in the next month or so.

Feeling pretty good after having to take some time off from the gym due to a foot injury in early January.
I ending up reaching my goal on pushups for 2024. I started out the year trying not to exceed the 200/day monthly average. I did slip up later in the year and added a few to monthly totals.:p

J - 6,200
F - 5,800
M - 6,200
A - 6,000
M - 6,200
J - 6,000
J - 6,200
A - 6,200 + 100
S - 6,000
O - 6,200 + 450
N - 6,000 + 300
D - 6,200 + 1,000

Daily average for 2024 = 205/day

Happy to have completed my goal. Probably continue in 2025.

I think I lifted 315 a couple times this year, but once on squatting rack so I wouldn't die and the second time with a spotter where I hit the bar shelf. I got the lift, but a bit embarrassed. Today was deadline day, so decided I better try to get it done. Only one other person lifting and he wasn't paying attention. I figured, what is the worst that could happen.;) I despise grunters in the gym, but I broke the rule today.

Time to pour a whiskey.
