How do you sight in your lever guns?

I love that white tail ammo in my 30-06.

The 30-30 was made 9/15/41. It won't be getting a scope ever by me. I struggle with the open sights, so it's not a hunting gun yet. I hope to get it there.

I am still using my Model 94 with open sights, but without glasses or contacts those days are coming to an end.

I personally zero my .30/30 at 50 yards and keep shots to 150 yards or less. Has worked well for me.

What's the rise / drop you see in the difference between 50 and 150 yards?

There are quite a few clear cuts and canyons that the deer like to hang out in but it is thick up to there. I wouldn't be that far from bait just giving my max range that I would be comfortable shooting with iron sights.

Same as scoped guns except use much bigger target to match the perceived size of the front sight. Don't hold the sight in the center of the target. (Need a unreasonably huge target for that.) Hold at six O'Clock, stacking the target over the front sight. Adjust to put the group just above the front sight for fine shooting with a post or under the bead for closer fast shooting.

Recommend a peep sight. You can hit a very long way on a static target in good light using a blade or globe. Fiber front works well for game shooting but glows very large preventing useful precision much past 100 yards for me.

For the 30-30 Win
It’s a woods rifle so a dead on 100 yards
I prefer the 170gr Silvertip by WW or the 170gr Nosler Part by Federal Prem.
The New Hornady 160gr Flex Tip suppose to be real performer on game.
Still have my first real deer rifle my dad gave me and his first deer rifle a 1952 Win 94 carbine in 30-30 Win in excellent shape.
For Alaska my favorite Win 71 in 348 Win is my pick …….too bad my eye sight is bad with open sights today.

It can depend a little on the rifle - I don't know if I'd do this with an older / historic piece. But when I found my .444 Marlin I wanted to keep it open sighted. I put a Williams peep-sight on it and can adjust elevation a bit. Front post was a little too low after I put the peep on it, so I got one of Williams 'Fire-sight' (I believe that is the name). They make it in a lot of different heights. I did a little calculation based on my original front blade and ordered one accordingly. It'll group around 1.5 at 100 with factory Hornady lever-loution ammo.

In general, if it's got a dove-tail on the front sight - then you can tap it left / right as needed for windage and the elevation is on the back sight.
Yes Williams Fire Sight
If you replace the hood with a cut out hood it will glow even more in dim light
I suggest a Wild West Guns Happy trigger one of the best mods I have done to my Marlin 1895. Also suggest a Williams twilight peep. As you can tell I am very fond of the Marlin 1895. In your 444 the Hornady flex tip is proably the best load today in factory ammo.
