I have hundreds of 308. 200gr nosler Partitions I orginally purchased to load in my 300 win. Traded that gun a couple years ago and haven't used them sense. I'm down to 17 180gr accubonds and 80 180gr Partitions bullets which is what I load in my 30-06 and can't seem to find those bullets anywhere. So I figured it would be a good idea to work up a load with the 200gr bullets. I was thinking of using the same H4381 I loaded in the 300 win as my research seems to point to this being a good choice for heavier bullets in 30-06. Unfortunately I have just under a pound left of H4381 but I have over 10 pounds of H4350. I usually use H4350 to load any 150gr-180gr bullets in my 30-06. Any thoughts on what powder would be a better choice? Any tip, advice, or thoughts on loading 200gr Partitions in 30-06 would be appreciated.

I have some 180g partitions I can sell you. Think I have 3 boxes, I will have to see what I paid for them. Shoot me a PM if your interested.

Dad was a 30/06 and heavy weight fan. (NO clue why, hunting in PA. Guess it was a Big Bad Bear 150# might charge) Don't know his velocities, but he, and a couple of his buddies, were stuck on IMR-4831 for 200's.

Sounds to me like your gonna be out of H4831 before long but have plenty of H4350. Seems to me the one to go with is H4350 in that case! I not so sure but what H4831 might not be to slow burning in the first place.

I don’t see a reason not to use 4350. Without looking at data I’d expect 2600-2700fps.

A few years ago I loaded the 200 grain Nosler Partition over H4350.

H4831 probably would have produced higher velocity, but I was right at 2,600 fps with good accuracy. That 200 gr Nosler has a pretty good BC and flies flatter than I'd thought it would. I only shot it out to 300 yards, but it did fine there. Accuracy was good, and surprisingly - the recoil felt pretty mild to me. I thought it might kick harder. No, not bad at all.

Used it on only two animals, about a 75 pound wolf - yes the soft front end expanded readily on the wolf. And an 8+ ft interior grizzly. That one took a few hits, but the bullets did well when I shot well. The wolf was at about 250 yards and all the shooting at the grizzly was a 40-50 yards or less.

I was pleased with the bullet & load and considered using it for all my hunting with the 30-06, but... Have a large pile of other 30 cal hunting bullets on hand. So, I'm using them as well.

Best of luck. I think you may well find a very good load.

Regards, Guy

Have a really off the wall idea for you. If you have data, try it and see what happens! Sitting here wondering. How many new wonder powder's are simply old powder's with new names?

Any 4350 or 4831 will work great but a pound(7k gr) of your h4831 is a lot of 50ish grain loads. I see h4831 in stores so will have chance to buy more soon. I would do load workup on both go with one you get better accuracy.
