I don't know whether to be happy or sad. My mechanical buddy and trusted steed for the past 12 years is no longer in my possession. I sold my 1989 Jeep Cherokee yesterday. I am one of those people who is car poor...last count I think it was around 5 vehicles, not counting boat, camper, trailers, and motorcycle. Insurance was costing me $600 per year for a vehicle I hardly use anymore. If it hadn't been the two-door model, I probably wouldn't have sold it despite it's 161K highway miles. It never left me stranded away from home. It witnessed my taking of the largest buck of my hunting career. Countless fishing trips, two cross country vacations, trips to Denver...what I'm saying in my round about way, it was one of the best vehicles I've ever owned.

It still looked and ran practically as good as when I bought it 12 years ago with 110K less miles. No dents, the paint was still intact, good tires...yada, yada, yada. The old boy never tried to fanagle me to a lower price...just gave me the 3 grand and left with a smile on his face. Now I'm hoping that he doesn't tear the he11 out of it and me have to see it. That always kicks me in the gut! Last time I saw my old '78 Chevy truck, I was tempted to get that old boy out and "B" slap him! I don't think it had even been washed since I sold it to him, had one door the wrong color, and had grease and what smelled like pig poo all over the back bed area. Guess I should have sold it on Ebay. That way I never have to see it again. Right?

RW, I know how you feel, it was just a short two summers ago, that my 1978 Super Cab Ford was laid to rest. The engine went, and after discussing it we decided that it was too old, rusty, and was gonna need too many more parts in the near future. We sold it to a kid down the street for $300. They canabilized it. I see the bed on one truck, the cab on another. I remember the trips into the woods, and the mountains of Penna, the fishing trips, sleeping behind the front seat in foul weather. Good trucks are like good women, they stick by ya. Sorry to hear about your loss. Hope he treats her good. The way a lady should be treated.

I don't know what I will do when I have to get rid of my old Yota...It is sitting at almost 310,000 hard won miles....

You will wise up and buy a Dodge, you weenie!!
:D

Just curious...but why buy a Dodge?

I used to be a Mopar fan back in the old muscle-car days...but the last Dodge I owned (in the 80's) was a turd from the word go. Did they get better or something?

I'm serious as a heart attack...not meaning to put anyone's ride down, and no sarcasm intended. I'm just wondering how they compare to the rest...initial cost, reliability, fit and finish, and resale value.

Jeep and Dodge are the same as, Chevy and Pontiac or Ford and Mercury. Sorry about your loss. Old traded off rifles and shotguns are what really get me down.

Toyota's just don't lose their value as fast as any of the other major sellers here in the U.S. Unless of course you have a ton of miles on them. But then again, how many American manufactured vehicles can tout the same record as my little rice burner....Especially with the fact of how this little truck has been treated, and it still has the same old motor... :D
