So my Girlfriend is the queen of finding tools along the road (No that's not how she met me...)

two summers ago she found a Makita battery blower that fell off a truck in front of her at an intersection

Then this winter found a 10 year old Husqvarna Backpack blower in the weeds along the road in front of our pasture. I started it and it ran...

My dilemma is that the big backpack blower is not something we would use , and I have a nagging thought that maybe someone stole it and ditched it in their getaway.

I haven't heard of anyone missing one but I want to be sure if I try to sell it, someone's not going to say " hey that's my stolen equipment!"

What is the procedure to be sure it's not stolen (I guess this applies to buying used equipment too)

I wouldn’t worry about it I suppose. If someone accused me of stealing it from them, I’d assume it was probably actually theirs since how else would they know and I’d let them have it back and explain that it was found. I don’t think it has to be to complicated as it’s the truth.

You can check with authorities. Buddy had a weed eater and stuff stolen from his shed and he reported it. When they caught the guy they returned the stuff to him since he reported it.

Id post in the local facebook group you have a piece of power equipment you believe to be stolen or lost you found by your house , if you can name the make and what it is Ill return it.

Those little blowers are the best at getting a bon fire ripping.

And for blowing off sheets of OSB when ripping pack outs for I joists.

I found a boat. Wanted to sell it. Called the sheriff and he ran the numbers. No problem to sell, in my case. Call the cops and see if anything has been reported.

I’d recommend she be more cautious. There was a string of attempted robberies near me last summer using “lost” tools as bait. They planted them on the side of a rural road in the early morning, and waited for someone to stop and get out of their car, to then jump the people. Or at least that was their plan. From what I gathered, the intended victims (2 incidents IIRC) caught on and drove off before the attackers got within reach. The cops caught them eventually, but I’m sure they’re not the first or last ones to use this trick.
