The bigger/lighter colored ones on the left came off of one clump we found roadside. Noticeably larger and less red when ripe. It was important that we find some roadside as Mrs kansasdad is in a walking boot with a Joél Embid style fifth metatarsal bone fracture.

No luck on ramps or grey morels, but there’s more henbit that I could pick in a lifetime.
It's all over around here. Never knew about eating it.You probably already know it and just call it by another name.
You can add the leaves to salad, or substitute for half of the basil in pesto. It’s very mild. The stems are bitter. The tiny flowers are sweet like honeysuckle. My kids just pick and eat the flowers.
It’s a non-native early spring ephemeral that can cover entire row crop fields. It will be up your way in about a week. Once the corn shoots start popping up it has already withered away.
