Yep and that’s the problem. Most players aren’t getting an Nil deal from Nike or under armour it’s from joes plumbing shop and joes probably not doing it for advertising but because he’s a fan which is short for fanatic so in his mind paying someone $1000 to wear a joes plumbing hat is helping the team win.

So run all NIL's through the NCAA (not the schools). Change it for this one reason.

They exist as a loophole to the NCAA prohibition on payments to athletes - so folks have to keep up the pretense to access the loophole. Three choices (i) leave as is; (ii) treat athletes the same as all other students and let them get whatever money they can without need for the pretense; or (iii) have a collective bargaining agreement with the athletes that would lay out the financial rules both can live with. Outside of these, the NCAA is just a big anti-trust machine (hence the court ruling that created the NIL loophole).

I never said they shouldn’t get a cut. But don’t you think they make enough off them already through ticket sales, apparel sales, increased admissions, etc.

All taken care of in the collective bargaining agmt and the NFLPA agmt. Some is “combined league revenue” (like jerseys), some is “NFLPA revenue” (like video games) and some is player specific revenue (like Farmers Insurance), depends on the nature of the deal.

And the average nfl salary is (according to a quick google search) $3.2 million/year which is skewed by the highest of the Salaries. $860k/year is the median of all nfl salaries. If we took the average of all nil deals across the ncaa would it be 3.2 million or even 860k per player? I highly doubt it. And, then to complicate matters we bring in title IX and a collective agreement is not possible.
