Seems like a good point in time to reflect on how our preconceived political beliefs turn us stupid. This is not partisan - it is all of us - it is both sides. Now is also a good time to take a deep breath and not use "beliefs" and assumptions as a guide to understanding reality.

While I understand the presentation and see my own inability to accurately reason when I am passionate about the subject, the bigger problem currently is that people aren't trusting the numbers presented on the board (the statistics). So if one demonstrates a correlation from the last 4 (or 8, or 16) years, the concern is often whether or not the numbers presented are even accurate (inflation, crime, etc.), regardless of whether folks can genuinely grasp what the numbers demonstrate. We all think we're being lied to outright all the time, and sometimes we're right.

Yes.

My life has improved every.
single.
year.
despite who's in the white house or what the "media" tell me.

I have zero faith that most of my friends, family, coworkers, and HT-ers have a flying friggin' clue how to effectively and efficiently evaluate even the most mundane problem in their lives, let alone try to research, evaluate, weigh, and summarize all the various topics, components, and reasons that go into, or should go into, trying to pick the next leader of our country. Not only do I think you're all basically morons, but I also don't think there's any hope that it gets better. Institutional inertia is the only thing keeping it going.

Just curious do you do all that or are you basically a moron too? Don't get riled up over the question. I'm just trying to see where you're coming from?

Oh, I'm a moron, just ask my wife! I think VG's video hit the nail on the head. I can try to think I'm being open-minded but odds are, I'm a lemming. But just like everyone else interviewed I think I'm better than most.

Ok, were on the same page then.

Edit-not that I think your a moron- we all are.

Edit again- yah so...I guess that means I do think your a moron. But respectfully. 🤷‍♂️

In 2016 I wrote somewhere on here, that no matter who wins, it's not gonna be as bad as you think it will be. I know certain folks could argue against that, but I do think for the vast majority, it's the truth. I've seen apocalyptic claims from either side of the financial machines for 20 years now.

I believe hysteria is our most dangerous response. Whoever loses will only have themselves to blame. Watch though, and you'll see them blame the other for their loss, trying desperately to pull ahead in a race to the bottom. All the while a very simple formula for winning next time exists in the obvious - which is to be better. If only political parties were half as smart as a 15 year old working their butt off to make the team.

Thanks @VikingsGuy , that was a really good watch and I found it very interesting. I'll be watching the full TED talk in the near future.

It appears that for most, your purpose of the thread and the video is going way above their heads
Agreed. The only thing id add - the video doesnt really capture how much of these statistics/studies are manipulated data or data thats not properly contextualized. Perhaps a good example would be calling sucidide by death "gun violence" and lubbing it into with different things like murder to make your argument more valid.

Its very hard to look at basic numbers on statistics and not ask more questions to draw an informed conclusion.

Watch the closing sponsor ad as he does go into this a little bit. The point is made how new stories will use the data set that supports their leaning support on the topic and the flaws in doing so.
