First truck and current truck.

First truck was a Dodge D50. I don’t even remember the year made. That was like 1988.

Current truck is a 2020 F150 XLT 3.5 Ecoboost. Rather nice truck. Bought it in February 2022 with 8200 miles on it.

I bought this truck to replace a Ram 2500 6.7 Cummins. It just was more weight than I wanted to take into the field coming in at 8300 lbs with just me and the dog in it. The payload on it was 1300 lbs.

It’s got a payload of 1813 lbs and an empty weight of 5920 and a GVWR of 7050 lbs.

The camper we’re downsizing is a 30’ toyhauler that’s just not fitting our needs. Toys it fine. Just put 4 dogs in the back seat…🤨

I have also learned since buying this truck, the salesman didn’t know squat about what was available for me. He claimed that 7050 GVWR is the max rating for the F150. It’s not. You can get the XL and some of the XLT with a Heavy Duty Payload package/ camper special with a 7850 GVWR. Will bump the payload up to around 2600 lbs. pushing the bottom end of a 3/4 T pickup.

So both this camper and pickup are on the short list to keep and I’m searching for that unicorn truck now.

My first truck was a 1949 3/4 ton International KB-3 with a grain box on it. I guy used it to haul garbage to the dump until it wouldn't start anymore and gave it to me if I would take it with the garbage in it. I took it and my dad and I lapped the valves in it and got it running. I drove it for years and finally sold it to buy a Jeep Wagoneer.

Since then I have a 2022 Chevy 3500 and a 2000 GMC that I drive so I don't put too many miles on the Chevy and I also have a 2000 Chevy S-10 that I drive so I don't put too many miles on the GMC...

First truck 1987 Chevy 1/2 with 4.3L V6 4 speed (first was that proper granny low). Leaked oil something fierce even after having the rear main worked on. That truck just flat out drove and had it not had a bad case of midwest truck cancer I'd probably still have it.

Current 2017 F150 2.7L Ecoboost crew cab. Wish I would have opted for the 3.5 or V8 but otherwise no complaints.
 
Said the heck with it, bit the bullet and ordered the truck today I SHOULD have ordered last February.

7850# GVWR Heavy Duty payload package. Basically the old “camper special” or “Heavy Half ton”. Should have like a 2400-2500 # payload vs the 1817# payload I have.

Where I’m current maxed out, I’ll have the extra 800# payload for stuff in the bed. It will also go from 145” to 157” wheelbase.

Yea the new f150s are a damn fine lookin truck. I bet you will enjoy that look for a long time. Congrats!

The plan is to have it a long time.

Plus it’s configured in a package people want.
 
First truck - 2016 Nissan Frontier. Loved it. Came with good all terrain tires, but was 2wd. After nearly sliding off a mountain and struggling to drive steep Arizona forest roads had to make the switch

2019 ram 1500 4wd
It’s a quad cab. With young kids and car seats it’s tough, but we make it work. Need the front jump seat for the dog with the 3rd kid on the way. Has 4wd and great all terrain tires. Lifted the front end up so ground clearance is significant. Have been able to drive up and down just about any road encountered and not gotten stuck yet. Has the wimpy v6 pentastar so hemi owners hate on me but I’m not towing an rv and love the gas mileage.
 
First truck - 1993 Ford F-150 Extended Cab with the 351 Cleveland. It was a hand me down from dad when I turned 16. Had about 120k on it at the time. I’m pretty sure it’s still being driven by a guy that used to work for my father.

How do you like the Fox 2.0 shocks?
They’re the best. Had Bilstein ordered but couldn’t get them for months…happy we went with Fox and the Cognito upper control arm, rides like a completely different truck. We just returned from 800 miles of mostly rough Oklahoma turnpike. Glad I had the shocks. Very smooth and stable, tracks perfectly. I also prefer the KO2 over the TOYO Open Country. 17 mpg going to Arkansas, 19 coming home with a following wind.
 
First truck was a 1989 keep comanche. Now I’m driving a 2016 Dodge 1500. Rarely take pics of my vehicles

Your truck journey sounds like a ride filled with memories and cool changes. That '84 Toyota must have seen some adventures, starting with your dad, then you, and your brother – talk about a family legacy! And the mods you guys added, like the lift kit, gave it that personal touch. Switching between a Duramax and a Tacoma seems like a big decision, but it sounds like you're loving the Tacoma experience. And not having to deal with the high diesel prices must be a plus! If you ever need some flexibility with trucks, you might want to check out Angus – they've got options for renting trucks that could come in handy.

I’ve had so many, I lost count. My first truck was an 07 Silverado and now I have two F150s.
