I think your mistaken. Those mono's only open so much as I understand it. To get more damage and a bigger would channel would require more energy with the same size mushroom head. Or a larger mushroom head at some certain velocity.

You have permanent wound channels, created by the slug itself and the shedding of pedals (if applicable) and you have temporary wound channels, which are created by rapid tissue displacement. What is there to be mistaken about?

There is a happy medium. You can have a wound channel that is too wide and shallow, just as you could have one very deep but too narrow.

Well just got a box of 143 grain Hammer Hunters and looking forward to seeing what they can do with some RL 26 or 23.

In my 280Ai with a 24" barrel, using RL26 I am shooting the 143s at 3170. I didn't have any pressure signs and can load it faster but I am getting 3/4" group outa of a 6lb rifle. The rifle can probably shoot better but that's the best I can do with a light rifle.

I guess I need to see what all the fuss is about and have a sip of this kool-aid. Ordered some samples yesterday for .243 (80 grain HH) 7-08 (131 HH) and 308 win (137HH). May try some 137’s out my 300 WSM as well.

I like the idea of high speed mono’s a lot, but have a concern about meat damage. A few years back I killed a bull with a 7mm rum with 140 gr Barnes traveling somewhere north of 3400fps. Shot was under 100yds and left a basketball sized bruise on his rib cage. Seems like keeping it under 3200fps that doesn’t happen.

I am thinking about loading some 152 hh in a 12 twist rum they might make 3500 + fps if so it is pretty good trajectory and down range energy but would still be going 3200 at 175 yards and that has been my concern the bullet maker said gtg at 3600 fps but I dont want to have a problem on an elk has anybody ran that bullet through an elk at this type of velocity ? thanks

Those are all great powders for the listed cartridges. I have had good luck with using Norma URP and the newer Staball 6.5 powder in my .270 when pushing the 124 HH. Very good velocities and accuracy in my rifle. (around 3300fps)

3300 is unreal. Can’t wait to try it. Have always used 150 gr interlocks for my .270, hoping these lighter 124s will hold up well against elk but sounds like they should.

I have 166 gr HH out of my Tikka M695 in 30-06 3,000Fps with H4350.
I just got a new Weatherby Vanguard in .270 that I am working up a load with the 117gr HH.
And my wife’s Tikka T3 Superlite in 6.5 Creedmoor is pushing a 110 gr HH @ 3,250 FPS.

Thinking since i had an issue getting 25 caliber bullets from Nosler, i'm willing to try the Hammer Koolaide too.
Ordered some 25 cal, 90gr Absolute Hunters for the 250 Savage.

Steve just built a new rifle. Just about 3600 fps with the 199 grain Hunter. If I know him at all, it won't be long before some 124 grain Hunters head downrange. mtmuley

Would you happen to know velocity requirements for the Absolute Hammer to expand?
Trying to do guesstimates for a max range.
Not advocating that i'm going to shoot max range, but nice to know info.
