The more this turns to pure buck quality conversation the less appealling it will be for people to get behind.

That's why the discussion really just needs to be about fewer tags and/or regional restrictions. No one from WA is passing up a buck. So you can't ever hope that people will voluntarily hold back to allow a decent buck to become a good buck, or a good buck to become a great buck.

I was the only one who hiked up my favorite trail for elk opening day. Not many elk and lots of scary bears. It keeps the pressure down a little.

Trust me, I’m fully on board with saving eastern Montana. I grew up hunting deer in the northeast. Not trying to make any point.

Talked to a guy last night who just put out his 5th BMA book for the year with a month of season still left. Said he’s never seen anything like the number of hunters this year

Opening weekend game check numbers were down actually. I think the amount of bird hunters has been the noticeable difference. What do you think @brockel ?

I agree with that. Only thing I would say is that hasn’t changed so it should be some indication? However I wasn’t hunting around here opener. It had been so aweful I left. Go west old man!

Most of the guys I’ve talked to have been deer or antelope hunting the mornings and evenings and bird hunting the afternoons when it’s warm

That makes a lot of sense. It’s definitely been a great year for me to work on my social skills. That’s a weak spot in my hunting skill set

I'm trying to help the situation by not hunting Mt. until the state finds a way to reduce pressure on available public / BMA's etc. Going through 5 books seems crazy to me.

My username is accurate - i can find forkys. Too bad theres not even many deer around on public land.... period.

Stevie wonder could see the NR tags are the major contributor. Until something reasonable (nr caps, no sales of b tags to non combo holders, no reselling) is done about that - all gonna fruitless.

If you think @brockel / @DFS are over blowing it - i challenge you to go look for yourself.
