ELK POACHED

Bullhound,

Easy, quick, access to and from poaching sites is a huge advantage to poachers...any moron can figure that out.

You dont read many poaching articles that start with, "this poacher HIKED..." or "This poacher rode his horse..."

But is seems ten bears has found plenty that mention roads and easy access. Just last year, one of the biggest stings in MT happened near Seeley Lake, most all the poaching happened from the seat of an ATV...and that isnt a limited incidence with ATV's.

ATV's should be outlawed for hunting, except by people with ligitimate handicaps...

Buzz,

Those poachers had benches set up in their house to shoot game that they baited into their yard. Maybe houses should be outlawed too. I read your "all those poachers from Lewiston" comment. Your a freaking idiot. You think ATV's should be outlawed from hunting. Some think hunting should be outlawed. Get a clue.

Paul

Paul,
I thought you were checking out????
When do you start digging the foundation on the new house?

Paul,
It was the original post in this thread, where our local ATV supporter wanted to ban elk hunting.
Time to ban elk hunting.
Ten has already said he is in favor of witholding funding to the Fish and Game if they continue to restrict ATVs.

Ithaca,

I guess us dumb shit hillbilly hunters aren't quite as educated as the elitist snobs from vermont. Why don't you add some substance instead of knit picking my grammer.

EG,

I'm on line until Thursday. Until then, step out of line, and your mine.

Paul

Paul, not only is your grammer in question, but so are your reading skills.

Those folks caught in Seeley were 100% using atv's, and a majority of the animals poached were on Boyd Mountain. Yeah, they may have shot a couple out of over 100 from the porch. But, if you knew anything about this case or the area in question, or simply learned how to read...that poaching elk, moose, cats, and mule deer from their porch would be impossible.

Give the arresting warden in Seeley a call, and ask him how they were able to pull off poaching on a state run winter range.

I wonder why their ATV's were taken into evidence????

As for the hillbillies in Lewiston, go check it out for yourself...

I wouldnt expect any better reply than those you've already made...typical of folks living south of buckhouse bridge...freaking 'rooter, you'll fit right in down there.

Paul,

Even though you cant read, or at least comprehend... for future reference to all, as to your credibility and knowledge...I submit...

"SEELEY LAKE - Neighbors of Dean and Renita Ruth in a remote corner of the Blackfoot Valley near Seeley Lake say they weren't surprised when multiple felony and misdemeanor poaching charges were filed against the couple described by state wildlife officials as "serial poachers."

Several neighbors said they have reported suspicious activities - including shooting at night, spotlighting and driving all-terrain vehicles on roads closed to motorized use - to authorities over the years. Some neighbors said they believed the Ruths had created a network of unauthorized trails for their four-wheeler ATVs through nearby land owned by the state and Plum Creek Timber Co. And some neighbors who are ardent hunters and outdoorsmen, and longtime residents of the area, said they have noticed a marked decline of game - especially big buck deer - in the vicinity in recent years.

Montana game wardens said they also suspected the Ruths of poaching for a number of years but could never make a case.

The charges against the Ruths include 12 felony counts, and numerous misdemeanor counts, involving more than 100 trophy-class game animals. Charges against Dean Ruth go back to 2000. Charges against Renita Ruth go back to 1999."

They must have had some pretty good long-range shooting irons to hit elk and mule deer from their porch on Cozy Corner Road, that were wintering 1-10 miles from their house...not to mention the shots on those antelope and mule deer East of the continental divide...

Paul, you're a joke.

I bet EG wakes up from his smoke induced delirium haunted by the sight of nightmarish ATV's.

I think you should look atwhat you said BUZZ:
Several neighbors said they have reported suspicious activities - including shooting at night....., spotlighting.... and driving all-terrain vehicles on roads closed to motorized use - to authorities over the years.
All these activities are already illegal. How is making more road closures going to solve this problem?

The one common act in all these poachings, that was legal isn't use of roads, but hunting, and if you come right down to it, all these animals were shot...... I can show in each case that each animal was shot. Can you & EG show where ATV's were used in each case? Where does that line of thought lead the non-hunting crowd??????

Ten,

You beat me to it. If we apply Buzz's mentality, an even stronger case could be made to ban guns from hunting.

Paul

Buzz,

Are you sure about this comment?

"I wouldnt expect any better reply than those you've already made...typical of folks living south of buckhouse bridge...freaking 'rooter, you'll fit right in down there."

I was under the impression that the typical "freaking rooter" was a tree hugging liberal enviro nut like you, with a predilection for gay sex and tofu.

Now that you tell me that the people of the Bitterroot are normal and I'll fit right in, I'm feeling much more at ease. Thanks for clearing that up.

Paul

Ten bears,

You'll never get it, you're too blinded by the dust and fumes from your atv.

Many of the animals that the Ruth's poached would not have been if they didnt have access via their atv's.

Those are the reasons why I'm against roads and easy access. People like you and the Ruths cant handle hunting on foot, a crutch is needed. Any animals that require a hike or effort...they're safe.

Take away the access and the roads...poaching is reduced, the articles you provided prove that, all were next to roads in easy access areas.

Paul, yep you'll fit right in, the 'root is full of six fingered banjo pickers. On a positive note, though, you can find someone to watch nascar with...

BUZZ, is it really the crime was committed because the roads were there, or is it the crime was detected because the roads were there???

Ten bears, thats a stupid question.

Most wildlife crimes are committed in high access areas. Look at the articles you provided.

The people that are ambitious enough to own horses, hike into wilderness, and otherwise exert themselves in the pursuit of game, care about the resource enough to obey the law. Plus they typically bag exceptional trophies, why poach?

Poachers are typically lazy and they cant hunt well enough within the law to bag the animals they want...so they resort to poaching...in other words taking the easy way out.

I wonder how many poachers typically make it a point to hike into the Selway, Bob Marshall, or Frank Church to poach?

The vast majority of big-game poached is from a vehicles.

"There are people making a living, a good living off of this," said Clay Cummins, assistant enforcement chief at Fish & Game. "It's astounding what they make and what other people are willing to pay!" Some of this is legal trade, and the poached animals are hidden within this trade......
"People are aware that the chances of getting caught are slim. They are aware of the manpower restrictions of the Department,"....
"An illegally guided elk hunt runs probably $2500, a legally guided elk hunt normally runs $4000. It undercuts the legal outfitter, " Blue explains. "So, one, it's a theft from the legal outfitter and two, it's theft of the resource. If not for that illegal activity, there may still have been a big bull elk on the hill that some twelve-year-old could have taken on his first hunt."....
Another quote from the site. If it wasn't a problem, do you think he'd waste time saying it.
"A guy takes a client or just himself in a Super Cub into the backcountry to poach. "
http://www2.state.id.us/fishgame/incredid/Fall2003/covert_ops.htm

Ten, Buzz is correct, as usual, and you're wrong, as usual. "The vast majority of big-game poached is from a vehicles."

Sure, there are exceptions, but I bet the illegal outfitting is only a tiny percentage of all poaching.

Ten, How's it feel to be the HT dunce?
:D
