Elk .... Let's see them!!!

Here is a Colorado bull in July.

The bird bull. He was dragging behind a herd of about 250, limping badly. Turns out he had a rusty broadhead
broken off in one hind quarter and a fragmented bullet in his front shoulder that blew up and didn't perform. The broadhead
looked old. Lost all of the meat off of that one hind.

That is an awesome Bull! One Tough SOB

Got talked into using my AZ points on a late November season by a guide. Had a terrible hunt. Looked around and said “this would be a reall good unit to hunt in SEPTEMBER” and used my ONE permanent hunter Ed point to draw the very next year. Had an awesome hunt on my own.

I’m pretty realistic and an elk like that with a longbow will be very hard to top so that has allowed me not to go down the “have to hunt elk every year” path and Ive been able to hunt many different species as a result. I’ve got a lot of elk points all over and am really looking forward to my next tag.

Ive been fortunate enough to hunt and harvest a bunch of elk, including some nice bulls. This however is my favorite. My 12 year old son taking his first elk on a DIY hunt on public land near Yellowstone Park with a couple good friends.

Called this guy in for my buddy back in 2017. He had passed on this guy earlier in the day because from a profile view it looked like he didn't really have any thirds. But once we decided to take a closer look it was game on. Crawled into about 125 yds of him and his harem. Set up and let out a couple soft cow calls to get his attention and then ripped a bugle. He jumped up out of his bed and charged in to 27 yds. Best elk hunt I had ever been a part of and I didn't even have a tag.
