turned in my paperwork for vacation, I had some extra saved up got it approved today ! yee Yee , so now I have the first eight days of season off including friday the day before season opens so I can scout and try to find a buck and make it happen opening morning. With eight full days to hunt I’m feeling pretty confident. I should be able to get a good opportunity on a buck.

Drove out to my buddys ranch in Wyoming to practice shooting at distance. Something I don’t normally do , he has targets out to 1500 yds and does long range shooting all the time. So I went to spend time and figure out my rifle at 300 to 400 yds . Just so I’m as comfortable and prepared as I can for the lope hunt.

I don’t have a rifle with the ballistics and the present range and distance built in , I'm just old school. My scope is a tree teared multiple crosshairs type , so I spent the afternoon figuring out what crosshairs at distance I need to use

Took the longest to figure out where I needed to be at 300 , then at 400yds 1st shot …. Money …. Never have tried this distance before

Heading back to Billings tomorrow, feeling comfortable and confident if I have to try a longer shot on a buck
If you only shot off of a lead sled, I would suggest that you try some shots off your bipod or off a pack. Your point of impact could be way different. At least, that was my experience.

Yeah, I put like almost 50 rounds through the 308 so that’s why I used the sled because I wanted to save my shoulder, 1st time ever using one, not sure if I’ll be able to get back down there before season , it’s gonna have to do , I also own a tripod that I’ll have in the truck , never used it for a harvest though

Finally found 2 bucks on private as I was driving along a half section of public , dam buck ran right at me crossed behind my truck on to the public… ha ha ha , one day early .. I was trying to leave because he was walking towards the public, and was out aways when I took the pic … 2 bucks close by I’ll be sniffing around tomorrow

That’s a a solid buck
That was my thought , he got within 100 yds or less when he paralleled my truck than ran behind me across the road , he gave off that big boy vibe for sure ,

I was looking at another buck that was farther out and I could see antlers, but he was so far out I couldn’t really tell and then this one walked up out of a draw and was looking right at me about my 1 o’clock and I was like hello , and my focus changed instantly, so I’m a few miles away , I’ll head there at first light and see what I can see.

Overall, I only saw those two bucks today , saw 25 mule deer all does and a few drinks a coyote and a badger, fun day , I also explored a couple other Sections of land out here that I’ve never seen before,

Time for mountain house ! Since I’m only a couple hours from the house give or take, I brought Mountain house, bananas, apples, RX bars, peanut butter, rice cakes and water, ghost energy drinks and some instant coffee and dead deer sticks

Traveling light , moving fast šŸ˜Ž

I hope you get something. Your rig looks awesome!
Thanks , got the tent topper this spring , ran tube lights through the frame and bought a portable charger for electric also have a small solar panel that can recharge the station, but it also charges off my cigarette lighter with a cord , gonna use that today for the first time see how long it takes , right now my power is at 93 percent and it says my and 25 more hours to run the tube lights …. The charging station best investment ever
