So, I don't really know what I am doing and I only have two preference points for a buck antelope in WY.

I don't care about a trophy, I'd just like a unit with lots of lope and some stalking/shot opportunities.

Since I figure I don't have good odds of drawing a good unit with my two points, here are the units I just threw in for since I guess there always a chance I could lucky on the 25% random draw, feel free to critique my choices and offer any advice if you are so inclined:

For Type "1" 1st choice: 53-1, picked because it looks like great unit if I get lucky and draw a random tag, lots of public land and apparently decent success rate.

Type "2" 2nd choice: 99-0, muzzleloader tag, I have a great long range capable muzzle-loading rifle I'd love to try to get a lope with.

Type "3" 3rd choice 101-1, just kind of randomly picked a good looking unit figuring its too unlikely I'll get anything on my 3rd choice with only 2 points anyways.

For Doe/fawn tags I picked 53-7 and 45-6 since they looked like they had some decent public land chunks and had tags.

I wouldn't choose any of those buck tags, you have absolutely no chance to draw, at least going by last year's draw. Your first two choices had zero random tags available. Your third choice had 1, but with 104 first choice applicants, there's no way you'd get it as a third choice. You could put that one as your first choice, then your odds of drawing would be about 1%.

The reason your having trouble drawing a tag is because there are not many antelope.

If you shoot does you make the situation worse.

The worst thing you could when the population is struggling is to kill the golden goose.

I second what @Washington Hunter said above. If tag numbers hold, you’ll have no chance to draw any of the three buck tags. Understand that Wyo goes through everyone’s first choice before a second or third choice is considered. To have a shot on a 2nd choice, you need to be applying for those tags that had more available than they had first-choice applicants. And, of course, to draw a random tag with your first choice, you need to apply for a code that actually offered a random tag. 53-1 did not last year.

Thank you, I just spent some time reviewing the non-resident draw odds for 2024 and will def change my choices.

I remember you being from Nevada. Nevada and Wyoming have completely different draw systems. Watch Randy's video for a crash course on Wyoming's system. Only your 1st choice really matters anymore. You're going to need to look to the NE part of the state. Access is very difficult, but you could very well draw with 2 points and kill a buck.

I wouldn’t bother looking at anything until they release the tag quotas down the road. If you have 2 points you’re more likely gonna have to get super lucky for a decent tag or focus on the eastern part of the state.
