Are mostly intelligent people, but vote for some really stupid laws. Just got back from King Soopers, eggs are $12 for 18 eggs. Now I know there are also shortages due to bird flu, but the cage free law is definitely a big chunk of the increase from $4 pre cage free law. Hey, I'd trade pricey eggs over a mountain lion hunting ban, but damn I feel for lower income families. Little Debbie- $2.50/ eggs,-$12, and we wonder why there's an obesity and diabetes problem.

Egg producers have been in compliance with the cage-free law for at least a year. Did it negatively affect egg prices? Yes. But the recent jump in prices is 100% HPAI.

My wife was talking about this yesterday, although she only paid around $7.50/18. She's a nutritionist by training, and eggs used to be the cheap go-to for high quality protein for families on tight budgets. Now that's gone too, so, yep, fill up on starch, still cheap. Type II DM soars in kids.

And maybe a sprinkle of greed.

Went to Costco a couple of days ago and the egg cooler was almost cleaned out. I didn’t make the connection. But the prices were pretty normal. Maybe because there were a few cracked ones in the packages left, or maybe because Costco doesn’t want to damage its reputation with its customers.

I don't think all were in compliance, but Id have to research that. Cage free eggs have historically been a bit more per egg than other types, I can't imagine $0.30 eggs are ever coming back.

Not Colorado, but apropos:

Meat proces don't bother me since we only buy maybe 10% of it from the store ( I know we still pay for it). Trying to find stuff that's healthy and convenient for the kids that doesn't break bank isn't easy.
An option, but I cannot personally recommend. If you haven't killed any New Year's resolutions yet, try the SPAM Lite and report back.

So what was the obesity blamed on when eggs were .79 cents a dozen?

I'm about over hearing about the price of eggs...JFC.
