Climate Change

This climate change bs cracks me up. Climate has ALWAYS changed and nobody will stop that. It is only a way for leftist fools to try to fund their agendas. It would be real funny, if it was not so pathetic. Man is not the major player in climate change. That has been proven by LEGITIMATE science and not some leftist-paid envirotard scientist. There is no reason to not protect the environment, but it has to be done reasonably and in a way that does not destroy economies.

That sign thing was the funniest shit that I have seen for awhile. Reality sucks. LMFAO!

FACT!

He lectures on truth then goes to say that he's given up on the fundamental meaning of the word "Truth". Think about that. Also I'd be wary of an astrophysicist or perhaps a "science guy" with a Bachelor of Science speaking about climatology.

You don’t think two people with decades of experience doing research can’t accurately synthesis the most current scientific research in any field?
They aren’t writing papers or running protocols, just regurgitating what they have read.

I think that if I want to develop my own understanding on a subject I'll try to find a source that has degrees and a career in that field of study.

Are you saying you don’t want to develop such an understanding or that you’re actively in search of a reputable source?

Sounds most like you’re content to keep your blinders on.

I said exactly what I said. Nothing more and nothing less. But I do look at what material I come across on the matter and attempt to be as objective as possible. Which does include taking the source into consideration. While I try to be content with my life I don't live in contentment with the knowledge that I possess. There is always more to learn and more information to examine.

Makes sense to me. So who's your go-to source on climate change?

I think there are always benefits in listening to high level thinkers. Whether or not I'm going to take every word they say as fact is different. It's the same thing with reading Leopold or the bible or the Tao. I find that there is no downside, and in fact helps with that whole open mindedness and developing one's own opinions.

Therein lies the rub. It can be difficult to find sources that do not start out with a clear bias for either side of the issue or that do not speak in generalities without data to support whatever claims are made. Climate.gov does a decent job it seems to provide articles backed with good citation as to where the data comes from. I wouldn't call any source a "Go-To" as there really isn't one that I've found to be worthy of such a title.

I will agree that it is good to listen to others and find that I will generally learn something from every person I meet. I will also add that there are dangers in being so open minded as to allow blatantly immoral or misleading information to be spread. It wasn't that long ago that philosophy from the likes of Karl Marx resulted in the death of millions. That is not me endorsing any form of censorship but merely to point out the fact that not all information is equal or beneficial.

I don't recall knowing it all. I do recall learning how to read a graph and I'm pretty sure most people can. That being said, we're on an upward trend in temperature. Is that point arguable? Okay, so now we'll look at a graph. It looks like it jumps around. Just because it started going up around the time of the industrial revolution doesn't mean that humans are the cause. It's opinionated in every argument. Are temps rising? Yes, is it human caused? Not in my eyes.

Would you mind adding a link to the source of the graph?

Link is in the picture. joannenova.com.au

Here's another one from her site that can be helpful
"Joanne Nova aka JoNova (real name Joanne Codling), born circa 1967, is an Australian right wing communicator who mainly writes to promote anti-science views of climate in books and a denialist weblog, joannenova.com.au. She has no evident academic background in climate science; her degree (B.Sc.) is in molecular biology.[1 "

So let me get this straight... we are discounting a PhD in astrophysics... but some lady with a BS in Micro is a good source.

Also... the graph only goes to 1950... here is the same data out to 1990

The graph you posted has thoroughly been debunked as manipulative.

I have to say it. In school I was taught about prehistoric Earth and it being jungle-like, tropical, sounded warm. Before that I guess most if not all of North America was ocean. Land got rearranged, dinosaurs flourished. Then there came the Ice Age somewhere in time. Froze the shit out of things, killed off dinosaurs, and wooly mammoths and sabretooth tigers were around. OK, the Ice Age started melting, glaciers carved river valleys, etc. Sure sounds TO ME like it's been warming up for more than a few hundred years. I may not be the brightest bulb in the box at times, but I have a hard time swallowing some of this "climate change" stuff most of the time. People declare doom and gloom if we don't change this or that. You know what? I've been taught in our wonderful school system that the Earth has been CONSTANTLY changing. So why the uproar about it now? If the Ice Age was created by an asteroid that blocked the sun (or whatever reason given) then wouldn't it stand to reason that now the Earth is warming back up to where it NORMALLY was before that? Sure, pollution and other things may be contributing NOW, but it's hard to imagine that the last let's say 70-80 years had that big of an impact worldwide. Count me as a non-believer, and I don't study charts and graphs because I really don't want to!
