Here's a picture or 2, now that I know how to post them.

Them don't even look like full size deer and full size ATV's. Puttin' baby deer on tiny ATVs, and then wondering why they end up dead.

Will the ATV crowd ever learn?

The pictures are kinda small, but that is a nice looking whitetail(s.) Ten, is that the same deer in both pictures? Looks like the same deer, but the top picture is harder to see. So how far did you have to drag it to get it loaded on the 4 wheeler?

WH, same deer same ATV two pictures. Had to haul it about 1/2 mile back to the bike, and then ride about 8 miles back to the truck.

I know how old the check station guy thinks the deer is EG & BUZZ, now you guys tell me how old you think it is.

It would help if the picture was bigger than a thimble...

But, from what I see, short times, 4x4, not much mass, not even as wide as the ears...

I'd have to look at the lower jaw to tell for sure, but I'd say 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 years old.

Of course the jaws arent always accurate either, as it depends on forage conditions, etc...plus some biologists couldnt age a deer even if deer carried birth certificates.

If its older than 3 1/2 its a genetically inferior buck thats probably a result of over-hunting by ATVers.

So, either way, it really doesnt matter, a deer is just a product of its environment.

I guess that goes for other bench warming gubbermint employees as well.

Ten bears, since we're playing the age game...

Heres a few deer that are 5 1/2-8 1/2, aged by tooth cross sections, the most accurate and only positive way to age them.

These are 5 1/2

Heres a couple that are 6 1/2:

Heres an old grandpa here 8 1/2 years old...I like this one so much, I'll post a couple pictures.

I also have a jaw board with deer jaws from 1 1/2 to 12 1/2 years old, pretty good way to come within a year or two...

You are correct Ten bears, I dont know a thing about whitetail...I wouldnt know an old buck if I was looking at one.

I guess the same could be said for your #2 photo.
It's interesting that you would bring up the "jaw board". Seems I once heard that serail killers often keep momentos of their vicitms.

I've never felt the need to keep antlers, jaws, or even many pictures of the animals I've taken, but then again, I've never felt the need to prove myself to others either.

Buzz- That deer in the second picture has some extensive shoulder problems!
wink.gif
You bust him with your .338?

To stay on topic, I shot two deer this year that were less than 1 year-old.

Ten bears, I dont think you give that buck the credit it deserves...

Main beams are 20" Inside spread is 15 3/8", circumferences are: 3 7/8, 3 5/8, 3 6/8, 3 6/8. longest tine is 7 5/8. I wouldnt call that a genetically inferior buck at 5 1/2. I cant remember for sure but I think he grosses 141 B&C. I doubt that buck you have a picture of will gross 130, maybe 125, but even thats a stretch.

As far as keeping antlers and the jaw board...

Theres hunters that give a damn about the critters they hunt, and people that want to learn more about the critters they hunt. I'm in that group, and its paid off for me. I dont just park my ass on an atv and call it a season.

I want to know how old the deer are that I kill, I dont see much wrong with that. I'm also quite sure the average ATV fat ass wouldnt go through the effort or time to clean up a dozen jaws...of course it aint hard to age a forkie mule deer or spike bull either...

Oh, and by the way, how come you have a picture of that buck? Thought you didnt like pictures of dead stuff. Did you peddle the antlers for beer money?

If thems the measurements, and that's the score then the picture doesn't do it justice.

quote:
I dont just park my ass on an atv and call it a season.

Me either, but my ATVis a tool of the hunt.

I took the picture testing my new digital camera. I have pictures of some dead stuff, but not many of much. I cut the antlers off, drilled them, tied them with beads and a leather thong, and gave them to a kid for "rattling horns." Does that bother you????

No, it doesnt bother me at all...

From the crap you post, I was sure you cut them up and made pot pipes out of them...
