Annual elk rifle thread

Browning hells canyon speed, 7mm rem. Mag with terminal ascent federal 155 gr. Killer set up. 200yd group, sup 1/2 MOA groups. I’m more of an archery guy but love this setup.

My dedicated elk rifle is my .300 Weatherby Vanguard. I put it in a AA Fancy walnut stock made to my LOP, I pillar and glass beded the action, floated the barrel, installed a Timney trigger , had a KDF brake installed, and I put a recoil reducer in the stock. I then hand checkered it in my favorite multi panel wrap around pattern. I topped it with a Leupold VX 3i 4.5-14x40 CDS scope and had Leupold make a custom turret for my 180 grain TTSX handloads.

With around 100 hours of fitting, finishing, and checkering that stock, I don't like to take it out in wet weather, so my backup elk rifle is a stainless Remington 700 chambered in 7mm Rem mag.

I've had that rifle for years and have used it on a number if international hunts. This past summer I took it out of it's Remington Tupperware stock and I modified a Weatherby Griptonite stock for it which I also pillar and glass bedded and floated the barrel. I also have a Leupold VX 3i 4.5-14 CDS scope on it. I don't have a custom turret on it, but I have zeroed it at 100 yards and then range verified the 200, 300, and 430 yard impacts and marked the top of the turret cap at those settings for my 160 grain Accubond handloads.

Season 55 in the books. My dedicated rifle for the last 25 years has been a 338 Jarrett. The last 10 or 12 elk have been taken with a 250 gr. Accubond at 2980 fps. Prior to the Accubond I used partitions. Prior to the 338 I used an 06; 300wm; 375HH; and a 577 NE 3”

Tikka 6.5C in a Manners EHSL, cut to 20”, 139 scenar. It’s probably killed 7 or 8 elk, some mine, some friends. It does everything I need it to with minimal fuss and is pretty cheap to feed. I have one other hunting rifle, but this one is more often the one I grab.

Remington 700 chambered in .300 Ultra Magnum. Started hunting with it in 2000. I've killed 17 bulls with it. Most with a 200 grain Accubond at 3200 fps. Pretty nasty elk killer. It's headed for the Smith. New Lilja 9 twist, Gre-Tan firing pin and shroud to get rid of the j-lock and a bedding job. New Leupold Backcountry rings. mtmuley

I bought a 300 RUM as soon as they came out. Since then it has had the action trued and switched to a Benchmark barrel, Timney trigger, Manners stock, topped with a Razor AMG and finishes with a Thunder Beast Ultra 5 suppressor. I'm using 180 gr Nosler AccuBonds. Two days ago it proved itself again on a funky elk, I have a weakness for funky.
