7mm-08 with IMR4064

I went 24" on mine...but when I shoot this barrel out, the next one will be 22" max.

Nice!
Although most rifle manufacturers offer 22" barrels stock. Feather weights or light weights at 20".

I would have liked to tried Big Game in my 7mm-08, but local supply is sketchy at best.

My Stevens 200 with 22" barrel liked RL17 for best velocities.
Hodgdon H414 and Alliant PP2000 gave good velocities with lowest ES/SD.

But the OP asked about IMR4064, which i haven't tried.

A couple things, first you didn't recommend a starting load of 38.0 grains...I would drop to 36-37gr. My old IMR manual says 39gr for a 7x57, which roughly translates to 38gr for a 7-08. Starting at 36gr and working up would be safer. 39gr is probably fine, but I wouldn’t start there.

Second, why would anyone trust an old IMR manual for load data extrapolated from a 7x57 from some dude on the internet for a 7-08? Its not like load data doesn't exist specifically for the 7-08.

Third, Brockel gave load data specific for the cartridge, powder, etc. from a reliable source.

There's no way I would start at "36-37 gr." with that powder in the 7-08.

So, no, I don't find it funny that your load "data" was ignored.

So you think starting at 36-37gr is going to cause some sort of problem? Most powder cans and reloading manuals recommended starting 10% below max. Yet again, that’s between 36gr and 37gr. Hodgdon is showing 38gr as an acceptable starting point, so that should be fine. If he’d started at 36-37gr it would have added a whopping 2-4shots to his load workup. Not nearly the end of the world.

You can extrapolate from 7x57 data because because the two cases have almost identical case capacities. The difference will often be greater when changing brands of 7-08 brass than when comparing 7-07 to 7x57.

...or you can just straight up look at load data for a 7-08, no extrapolation required.

I’ll admit that’s logical enough, but the manual at hand at the moment didn’t have a 7-08.

That said, here are starting loads for the 7-08 in two manuals.
36.1gr and 37gr. Geeeeee I was soooo far off. Seems worth calling a guy out to me.

I'm getting 2860fps with 140 grain Partitions out of my 20" barrel with Big Game powder.

750...played around with other rifles more this year.
Know anyone that’s toasted a 7mm-08 barrel? I’d think life would be 3000+ rounds. I’ve got a Remington 7mm-08 that should be showing up this week and a leupold vx5hd to stick on top
