'24-'25 chukar season

After a dang near month off (at least it felt like it), we got back out. It's either rained or snowed that entire time. The hills were saturated, wet snow, wet slick lichen covered rocks and it was raining. Definitely should have brought a trekking pole.

The chukar hunt turned into a quail shoot as we bumped a group right out of the truck then chased singles up the canyon. I don't find quail very often and was shocked how well they held. Super fun watching the dog work. But dang those things are hard to hit! Finally left the flat land but none of the chukar coveys held, all flushed wild >100 yards out. Tucker stuck one small covey of huns, and I got one.
Called it quits a bit early and headed back down. The quail bush.

But walking road back to the truck Tucker got birdy and dang if we didn't get into covey after covey of chukar below the road. I ended up with three and lost one in the rocks. Almost lost this guy too.

But 15 of moving boulders and I was able to snag a wing and pull him out.

And then forgot to take a tailgate gate pick with the entire booty

This is a bit embarrassing but this pic was 15 years in the making. I'd never chukar hunted until I got my first bird dog, a GSP. She wasn't very good and we didn't have any success until she was 10. Then I got a few years of moderate success. Tucker is 3 and everything you could ask for in a dog (except for more hair on his legs) but my shooting has always been poor. I just get too excited. I can't count the number of times I've gotten 5, but never a full limit of 6, until today... #*^@#* yes!

Way to go! Now suck less at shooting and do it again next time out!

After two days of following @TheJason and his pups around best I could manage was chukar adjacent.

I’m hooked, but there’s lots of shooting work to be done for next time.
The shooting part is like nothing else I’ve experienced. It’s a total mind trip when you’re up on a ridge, ledge, or small cliff and they get up beneath you. I will never get used to shooting down at crazy birds.

@Jbotto

Last time I made the curry I added chopped onions, carrots, and bell pepper. I also added broth and coconut milk to make more of a soup style curry.
