2024 season, Its gonna be busy

Nice man! Looks like the sous vide method worked really well for you.

Mind sharing your process? I’ve got a couple antelope I’m struggling with, seems like some gunk kind of settled in the forehead bone and then the vertebrae attached the skull is still discolored.

Sure did like taking them out after a couple days and hosing them off and the gunk just all slipped off.

This is my process

-20 hours at 150 degrees, take out and pressure wash, change the water

-20 hours at 135 degrees, take out pressure wash and clean off any final pieces

- 20 hours at 125 degrees with 1 to 2 scoops of oxi-clean (2 for elk)

- 12 hours liquid paint on 40 volume (rinse off)

- 12 hours liquid paint on 40 volume ( wipe off with a wet rag)

I havent gotten the teeth part down yet, but I do all of my own skulls now.

Leaving for my Nebraska mule deer hunt on Friday, I'll be there for the weekend. Then headed back for 4th season mule deer/bull elk next week. My side by side has been sitting in my shop for 3 years, so I have to tear it apart and rebuild it before Colorado. Fun times and a busy 12 days ahead.

Had a descent 4 point about 20 yards from me this morning. By the time I decided I would take him, he started to trot off and I didn't want to take a bad shot, so I let him go. Solid deer 140-150 range. I'm sure I'll regret that one. Only buck so dar on my 70 acres and I'm pretty sure I blew him outta there. Maybe another one will get pushed on. Have the rest of the day today and until about noon tomorrow, then headed home to pack for colorado. Pretty sure I'll be coming back for muzzloader in December.
