PEAX Equipment

2021 will be a traveling season for SFC B and CPO!!!

As most of you know by now I have gotten my new rifle zero'd and have the 06 as a solid backup. That has me set for IN, WI and CO. I was kind of dreading using the Benelli with slugs in IL again so I asked around and have found a friend with a 300 BO pistol that is willing to let me use it in IL!!!! Got 3 boxes of federal 150s from PSA for 25/box and once I zero it (he has never fired it), I will be good to hook out to 200.

Alright, it is time to wake this thread up again!! I worked my last shift yesterday until Black Friday and put the new flooring in the remodeled mudroom (the year and a half long process of exterior improvements and fixes-sky lights, roof, siding and paint, and new post on the porch ended a couple of weeks ago). I am sore as the day is long but now have a couple of full days to get all my goodies together for the upcoming epic road trip. I have some shopping, washing and packing to do before Wednesday's packing of Jack for his first big game trip. The best part of the trip, regardless of success, will be hanging out with friends old and new in November in the Midwest. Oh, and WHITE CASTLE as well!!!

This is what it looked like as I left the Springs yesterday. Ran North to Wellington and then CPO and I drove straight through. 18 hours and I'm a bit whooped. Recuperating a lil now and getting some good chow in Hoosier Land tonight.

Yesterday was a freakin whirlwind! Me, CPO and John (fraternity brother) headed out to the farm about 0515 and after some trapsing around for settled in our spots ready for the 🍊 Army to let loose. It was cool and misty at about 35f. The sweet musk of the hardwoodswas thick and I breathe it in a slowly as I could.

Someone nearby (as usual) let the first shot ring a good 20 minutes before legal. For us, CPO was the first to mark. About 0712 his 280AI woke me from a lull. I was one draw over from him and he texted me a pic of the freak that walked up to within 35 yds of him. Double main beam, multi point drop time, bruiser. His first whitetail. John was also seeing deer where he was on the other side of CPO. After a couple of hours of I picked up and moved to the same draw as CPO.

We were sitting in a brushed in ground blind when another report sounds. That was John's 30 30. It dropped nice younger 4x4 out in the AG field.

Now I was a ready for some action. CPO caught some move meant out of the corner of his eye. I leaned over with Simo to get a look and saw a smaller body and the side I could see of the head was slick....I'm thinking "doe".....CPO tries to tell me it is a buck but I don't listen.....boom!! and Simo drops him at about 65yds with a shot to the neck. Yep, I said him, on the ground lay a squirrelly lil 3 point with nothing on one side. So, day one ends with 3 bucks down where we are (I had 1 buck tag and 2 foe tags).

Redman was on a different property and popped a nice doe later in the day. So by end of the day 4 deer hanging in the tree out back. We have a few days left to try for some does. Awfully good start to the trip. Oh, and we HAD to stop at White Castle to celebrate.

After cutting up John's buck yesterday and sitting out some crappy weather, CPO and I headed out on doe patrol this morning. Due to ammo shortage for me I took the old reliable Savage 06 and CPO was also shooting an XBolt in 06 which HAD never taken an animal before.

We were a bit slow getting out and got our comfy chairs in place maybe 20 minutes prior to shooting light. We set up right on the wood line about where John had been on the opener. Big ag field to the east, woods behind us and woods/ thicket to the northeast.

About 20 minutes after shooting light a group of does bound across in front of us. One unlucky lady decided to stop in front of CPO at 180 yds and took a dirt nap.

While we sat there grinning another group of deer pops out about 10 minutes later. I wait for a lady to clear a forky and drop her. At the shot another slick head stands there staring....pop and he assumes room temperature. Turned out to be not showing button buck.

With my tags all filled, we dropped these 2 off at the processor for Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry. Then off for some biscuits and gravy before and back to the house by noon. :)

CPO and I made the 3.5 trip to our spot here in IL. We were supposed to be camping here but the water got shut off to the campground earlier this week so the good folks here opened a cabin to the 2 of us. Right on the lake with a fireplace.....wish I could spend a month here. We ll be up at 0430 and at IL opening day. It will be our only shot in IL so we can make the WI opener and hang with more buddies. This trip and our time with Redman have already far exceeded expectations..... we are totally in bonus mode now. :) 😀

It went too fast my friends! Oh and I am going to need some addresses from you guys. A certain elk urine smelling shirt and a knife have been located. I have a feeling there will be some other items appear😆

In the stands on Wisconsin. Mid 20s, light breeze and pretty. I'm in a pine plantation. Plenty of shooting early..... slow now. Only tree rats around me so far..
